Our group just got a running T with no body (the engine is a fresh rebuild) and want to make a speedster and are always looking for more help from Model T owners or enthusiasts who enjoy learning about them, working on them, and operating them. Our museum is in Kingsbury Texas (near San Antonio and Seguin of IH 10) and we are always looking for help. Our museum has responsibility for three running T's already (one a TT, one a wrecker), with three more (including the speedster project), a running 1917 Nash Quad, a 1917 Indian Powerplus, and a 1921 Triumph. We have a Thor 1910 being restored offsite. This is in addition to our planes of the 1909-1939 era. Always looking for volunteers, most come from the San Antonio, Austin, and Houston area, but there are some "flyers" also. The location is great, 100 rural acres including a grass airfield and there is ample room for a "country road". I would love to see further development into this area as a period "Mecca" in which vintage vehicles can be operated an appreciated in the rural environment. Would love to have individuals and/or groups join the effort. Experience appreciated but not required.
Eventual hopes are to build a period "garage" as well as supporting buildings for the vehicles.

Al,

Looks and sounds like an interesting place. I wish I was a lot closer. Many of the Model T Folks also like other items from the same time frame. Below is a picture of some of their Ts

In the first pic is our sweetheart, our best running T in front of our flying Canuck, the Canadian version of the Curtis Jenny, the Canuck and the Jenny both flew as trainers in South Texas during WWI. In the second pic are our Nash Quad in the background although with the 1921 Triumph, you can also see the sidecar for the 1917 Indian. You also can see our signal corps truck and our two ambulances, the one in the front is having the rebuilt engine installed and the browner one (french markings) just needs TLC to get running. Not shown is our running T Wrecker and our running TT. We have 11 airplanes, most of them flyers at the field also.

We have lots of toys...need more boys and girls to play with them. Not to mention support. Have a real opportunity to create a "field of dreams".

Roger Freeman still invested in this wonderful dream? He is a real good man. I sold him a '17 Nash Quad a number of years ago but he re-sold it to AZ or NM where it became the 'War Wagon' an armored vehicle retrofitted to Pershing's Pancho Villa deployment. I might get back over there after the first of the year with my recently restored '14 runabout. george from northern Caldwell county

Al,

Have you ever thought about opening up a retirement home nearby? That is something I have thought about a few times. Is there a practical way to have some "Model Ts" and other things for guys and gals to play with in their old age. My Dad could tell stories about the Ts long after he could no longer start them. And if they were still warm -- he could start them and drive them. And he could help with engine overhauls etc. long after he could no longer pull the engine himself. Of course you had to speak louder to him or he wouldn't hear you....but I digress.

Probably not a large market for that sort of thing, but I know of one guy (me) who would be interested. Another location I've thought about is "The Henry Ford" -- access to Benson Ford Archives, the Museum, Greenfield Village etc. -- what fun!

Anyone else out there ever wonder about a retirement home with garages and a shop area?

I sure have Hal. Theres thousands of subdivisions planned on the fringes of golf courses, dozens of communities planned around private air strips where everyone has a hanger and housing planned along coastal areas where canals cater to the recreational boat people. I've seriously considered subdividing the ranch into 3-5 acre lots with rigid restrictions centering around Model T restorations. Wouldn't it be great to have upholsterers, babbit pourers, machinists, sheet metal artisans, wheelwrights right down the street? Today, the last day of the year, it'll be 72 degrees with nary a cloud in the sky. Convoys of northern tier state Model T hobbiests should be on the road! Happy New Year to all. . . . george
