Driving down a Maryland Highway yesterday I spotted out of the corner of my eye the following car. Its a 1918?? Model T that looks like it now needs a friend. I do not know if it is for sale or not, but if you want the address e-mail me

thanks

John Jr

P.S. I Asked my wife if I can bring it home and she said that the town Model T Fire Truck is cool and you can play with that one.

John,

If it was the Township's fire engine, seems it would make a hell of a community project. From the size of that add on rear view mirror & the fact there is still some air in the tires it was in service a long time. Looks a little (very little) shabby, it's a prize find.

Alex

Hi John:

I live in Maryland, but never saw it anyplace. Looks like a good project. As a former Model T Chief's Car owner, I have met quite a few Ford fire equipment owners here.

If anyone does go see it or try to get it, is that a DARLEY drop in lineshaft pump? Looks to me as if it just may be a DARLEY. If so that is a mighty find in itself!

Those things can STILL pump on a hydrant to the point where they suck sand in at the pipe joints feeding the hydrant.....better than most modern turbined gear pumps! :-)

Had one that looks like this pump back in the early 70's in an old C***y chassis. Sold it in '72 for 500 bucks..............oh darned.....thought it was good money then and college bills had priority, even if memory serves me right that it was still only like 36 bucks a credit hour :-)

I do know a Model T Fire Truck owner in Hampstead, Maryland. He may have acquired a spare truck, but he lives off Route 30. Then too, he could store his truck some place away from his home.

I am not sure if it is for sale. I looked around the place a little bit but I got an eerie feeling that my snooping really would not be apprecieated.

It is the one on Rt 30, pretty cool truck, and with a little TLC it would make a really fun hershey rig to mess around with and squirt some water. I play with my town's truck once in a while and it is slow, but really fun.

The truck is not for sale and the owner gets very irate when anyone asks about it. My friend there with the Model T fire truck was in his class at school and has known him for many years. He tried to buy it several times and don't even ask anymore.

The fact it is covered in leaves shows that he is really not interested in working on it and is just taking up space. Luckily, it is partially undercover, but is still exposed to the elements, deteriorating and needs to be rescued.

Everything and I mean everything, has a price. You just need to find it. Perhaps a new approach is needed to get his attention. Try the, "putting your money where your mouth is", technique. It almost ALWAYS works because money talks. Don't even ask if it's for sale. Boldly go up to his door and knock on it, with a bundle of banded cash in the palm of your upturned hand, where it is the first thing he sees and make him an offer of $5000.00 in twenties (contingent on a thorough inspection). (250) twenty dollar bills makes a pretty impressive stack, over 1 inch tall (ten dollar bills would be almost 2 1/4" tall), that usually gets people's attention especially during these hard economic times, and may cause him to seriously reconsider and be willing to talk. I'll bet nobody has ever done that before and the first one that does will probably be the new lucky owner. Jim

Sometimes these "abandoned" or "owner won't sell" cars are not abandoned at all. They are part of someones life. An intimate tangible memory of they way things once were, a time-machine with rust. To some, simply sitting in a car from our youth will instantly trigger wonderful memories of they way things once were, a first kiss, warm embrace, or the company of loved ones that have long passed on. By sitting behind the wheel of our "abandoned" car, we can simply close our eyes, and we are young again, full of dreams, hope and laughter. Sometimes these cars do not need to be "saved"-they are already doing the saving...
