Can anybody tell me what the gear ratio of a TT Ruckstell would be? High the same as a Slow speed or High speed standard TT worm drive? Robert

I can't tell you the ratio, but as I understand it the TT unit is an underdrive. That would mean that Ruckstell High produces no change to the stock rear end gears (whichever you may have high or low set). Ruckstell low would produce a rear end reatio lower than the stock gears.

As far as I know, ALL Ruckstell rear ends provide a "straight through" and a lower rear end ratio, or so I've read. I don't have a Ruckstell in my TT, but I bet one produces a low that you could climb a tree with.

Anyone else???

Henry has it pretty well right,Ruckstell high is whatever the ratio of the gears are, then low is slower. In other words, if you have a high speed worm and ring gear in a TT, it will be the same in Ruckstell high and so forth. Dave

Yes, now add to that a Warford or other trans that ALSO has an underdrive, then use the aux trans under with the ruckstell under and then you can not only climb a tree, but also the limbs. With your under-under drive!

Never done it, but I will soon....

Had the opportunity to try out the Warford Low with the Ruckstell low to use my Gramp's TT to pull out my '82 Ford Courier that I buried up to the axles in mud dumping spring prunings many years ago. I backed the old TT close enough to hook up a pretty good length of 3/8" chain to the Courier, put the TT in gear with a smidgen of throttle, straightened out the steering wheel then jumped out and walked back to the Courier and got in to steer it out of the mud. Once free from the muck, I just trotted up to Gramp's TT and throttled her back to idle and put everything in neutral - wished I had someone to take a movie ! gramp's truck

My Dump Truck (25 TT) has a Jumbo trans with rev.,,,,also a Ruckstell rear........If you put the ruckstell in low , the Jumbo in rev. then push the R (rev.) pedal down,,,,,It goes Forward and will climb a telephone poll if it can Hang On..........I just love to see all the discusion involvin' TT's I've been messin' with them since 1962 (14 years old) It seemed nobody liked them cuz they were "just too slow"....If you think life slows down out drivin yer "T" ,,,teke a ride in the country in a TT,,,,,you can count the "nails" on fence posts..... Carl

Very funny, Carl...

I am SO looking forward to driving mine around this spring and summer.. Engine goes in next month... yay! I figure it is like skiing: Downhill vs. X-country vs. Snowshoes... The TT will be like the snowshoes!

Mine has a Muncie 3 speed with low ratio rear end gears. As Carl says, reverse/reverse allows you to sink a post and come back every once in a while to measure distance traveled, and I don't even have the Ruckstell to further slow it down.

Third/high gets us going about 30 MPH, so running around town is FUN. But even so, it's necessary to be ever watchful of others who confuse my top speed of 30 MPH with stopped.

Ahhh - I love my TT. And I agree, not many cars allow you to count the nails on the fence post!

I like the deck chairs, umbrella, gramophone, table, spirit stove, pergola, FOOD and the likes I can carry around on my deck box ready for a comfortable picnic anytime we stop :-)

I read on post a while ago about timing a TT on the quarter mile. It went something along the lines of: line up, green light, accelerate, then consult the calendar to see what your speed was (:-))

Talking of speed, we have a fairly lightweight TT flat deck here with a "fresh" engine and high speed worm/pinion - no ruckstell. Unloaded it fair flys, and can easily keep up with the (slower) cars.

He added car ratio steering (higher) gears and the thing turns sharply. I am a bit uncomfortable with that as any jink of the wheel can send you veering suddenly.

Trucks are making a bit of a come-back in NZ at the moment too, with a few more getting dusted off. As long as you have 2 or three you have your own "mini rally" and don't feel so left out by those "flying car boys".

Cheers
Adrian
