Vernon,
A young man carrying a violin case asks an older couple how to get to Carnegie Hall, the answer "Practice".

If you don't have a instruction book, get one, the original is written as a Q & A. When new it might have been plunked down on a railroad platform, buyer had his showroom, test drive & then drove her home, eldest son leading the way in the wagon that got him there. Driving a T is a piece of cake once you flush your mind out of everything you've learned about driving a modern car.

Model T is easy to drive for me. I never learned to drive a standard shift car. I have the habit of hitting the brake to slow down. The T slows down OK when you close the throttle, then let up on the low pedal-then push brake pedal. I'm no expert as my first drive was yesterday. For safety reasons that the car doesn't run away with you, leave the hand lever straight up in neutral, then the car can't go into high speed. Let it go forward when you feel confident. I did this for the first 20 minutes until I got used to the pedal action. Practice on a level area first. Also make sure the car is totally stopped before pushing on the reverse pedal, it doesn't like the sudden change of direction. The driving DVD put out by the club is very helpful, it shows you what to expect when driving.
Good Luck & Enjoy-Howard

Vernon,

Welcome aboard! I’m sure you will have lots of fun. If the car was being driven by the previous owner – you probably are safe to drive it around some (although check/ask if the rear axle thrust bearings have been replaced with the bronze thrust bearings – so you don’t loose your brakes.) If the previous owner stopped driving the car because it almost killed him – then you will need to make some repairs before you drive it (don’t ask me how I know that). See http://mtfca.com/books/bookmenu.htm for information about how to drive T etc.

And also you will probably enjoy the Northwest Vintage Speedsters at: http://www.nwvs.org/

Respectfully Submitted,
