I just completed my first band replacement on my 26 Tudor. Just wanted to say thanks because I researched old message from this group to learn what I should and should not do.

The cotton bands were replaced with Kevlar and I have one short drive on them... need to adjust them.

Pictures of the process are on my Picasa account.

Keep them as loose as possible and still have them work.

Dan,

Thanks for your photos - they will be a bonus to anyone like me, who is yet to put together a transmission. I've only taken them apart so far !

I've been reading about the wood linings, but would (not wood) they be as supple as the fabric type. Are they difficult to replace, because they're less flexible ?

Jack

Great pictures Dan. I am about to do the same job on my 26' Fordor but dont have the luxury of removing the front seats so it will be a little harder!

Wood lined bands are plenty flexible enough to install when new. I've never been able to install a used one without breaking it, however; at least not through the little door.

Nice job on the tutorial! Why not consider adding the screen/filter under the cover while you're in there?

I hadn't considered it but might as well. Do most others have them?

Definitely add the filter (screen and magnet). You will be amazed at what the magnet catches!

I added the screen and magnet and really like it except for one thing. It really makes the oil run out the fourth main(I don't have a ball bearing) and fills up my Chicago transmission with motor oil. I drilled some extra holes and made a dam which helped, but it still does it. Any other ideas? Dave

Turn the 4th main 90 degrees so that the oil hole is on the side, rather than on top.

Ken, thanks, I will try that. Dave
