Looks to me like the lever is on the wrong side. It should be back when the brake is off and move forward when you apply the brake.

Thanks Normam. They were on when I bought the rear end. Now I now why the brake rods were to long. Jake I had a guy Locally rivot them on for me. I had to move one of puusher 1/2" so it fit the 26 drum and make room for the cam.If you like more pictures let me know. Al

Albert

Unless that right hand cam [2557B] was riveted to the wrong side, you can just remove the brake shoe spring, and spread the brake shoe open, then pull the cam lever [2562] back flipping the cam over.

Then refit the shoe and spring with the cam lever in the proper rear position. That should work.

The '26-'27 cams come in left and right, the cam lever is interchangeable.

More pictures please Al

Jake

You are right, I'm mistaken on this one.
Guess I was thinking of the pre-'26 where the brake cam is oval and you can swing it over.

The Improved car ('26-'27) brake cam lever has to be riveted to the proper left or right cam to make it work. The brake cam lever has to be in the rearward position for the rods to fit.

Albert you are correct as I'm tearing a chassis down presently and the cams are back just like your photo show, they go forward towards engine when brakes are applied.

Albert,

Don't forget to put a cotter pin in the spring perch nut and to lightly peen over the six bolts in your wheel hubs. (Maybe you already did, hard to tell from the photo)

JC,I moved one of the pushers 1/2". That gave me a smaller diameter brake shoe. The drum fits just a little snug which I wanted. If you want to call. 6087860875 Al

Thanks Al, now i get, it you took off one of the ends and rerivited it at an inner position
That was good thinking
I guess you had to move the little lugs that keep the shoe against the back plate too ..yes?
When i close mine they only close so far before they hit the lugs.
What kinda shoe lining did you use ?
did you get it from McMaster car?
Thanks JC

JC, there is local guy who does brake work.He had the linings and riveted them on for me. All I did was move one pusher on each shoe. I didn't have to move the lugs. If you do this put the shoe in the hub and the cam or something the same thicknness then position the pusher to rerivet. I didn't do that and had to move one ahead. Alot extra work. But now we know.
