I need a set of lug nuts to mount my 26/27 wire wheels. The vendors don't seem to have any in stock, Langs, MAC's & Gaslight that is, and weren't encouraging about when they would be in stock. Anyone have the dimensions of these lug nuts? SS acorn lug nuts are readily available from nut and bolt houses but I'm unsure of the size other than 1/2 - 20 thread size.
Anyone know a part number for a modern front wheel hub grease seal?
I think the Model A lug nut will work. Acorn nuts from supply houses have a flat bottom which will fail to enter the tapered hole in the wheel properly. This is very important for proper alignment and nut-to-wheel engagement. Plain vanilla acorn nuts may just back off if used. Also, most acorn nuts available are coarse rather than fine thread.
As for the modern seal, check with the vendors. You can get them cheaper from them than from the local bearing house.
I have reprod. ones and good used ones which is your choice?? danuser88@socket.net
Guess it depends on just how close to stock you want to stay.
I replaced the lug nuts on my 27 with stainless acorn nuts just because I wanted shiny lug nuts to go with shiny hub caps.
I went to the local auto parts store and rummaged through their selection until I found some with the correct thread, taper and length to do the job.
They have worked fine. I check them once in a while and so far they haven't come loose or caused me any problems.
Be sure to use the correct taper nuts. One of the weaknesses of the 27 wire wheels is that they tend to crack around the nuts. They need to be tightened evenly and have the correct nuts to minimize that from happening.

Lang's, for one, lists tapered stainless steel washers to go between the 26-27 wire wheel and the nut, presumedly to protect paint on non-powder coated wheels. Are they safe to use, or would a lug nut be more apt to back off if they are used (even if torqued to spec).
The ones I used have the correct taper and they have the large shoulder below the wrench area that more than completely fills the taper on the wheels.
