Remember that most likely they used a commercial chassis and in 1917 that was a brass front chassis. The engine number should be for 1917, but it should have a brass radiator. Pictures I have seen of WWI ambulances include many with brass radiators. I assume by 1918 they were using the new style radiators and hoods.
