Greetings to all...
I am working on my 26 T this evening and would like to plug the hole in the block between the #2 and #3 cylinder (the hole that was used for the carburetor linkage to pass through). My car has a vaporizer carb and this hole is not used - except for being used by a d..ned mouse to store kernels of corn behind my cylinder valve cover. I have the late style cyl valve cover without the hole.) My idea is to plug the hole by using a brass washer for a 3/8 bolt over a thin 1/16 in teflon washer on both sides of the hole and tighten down the washers on both sides using a single 3/8 in NF bolt with locknut.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone know of any problems this might cause (except for the mouse)?
Thanks for replies.
Regards,
Joe Fudge (Ohio)

I can't think of any problem. Don't know much about teflon whether it could take the heat? It's used for frying pans so I suppose it would. The corn might make your valves quieter though!

Joe, no need to plug that hole, just let the corn stay.

I've found that good ole yellow corn helps to keep the lifters quiet,...and who knows.....?

perhaps I can recycle the stuff into ethanol for fuel?

:-)

What is it with mice and the valve chamber, anyway?A few springs ago I was helping a friend start a T of his that had not run in some time.Got it running without much ado,and man,was it QUIET! It had only run thirty seconds or so when I saw the water inlet was leaking.I had just got the wrench on one of the bolts to snug up when two mice shot out of the center of the block. One ran up my right arm[I had had my hand resting on the steering shaft]for a ways before bailing off. This is WITH a throttle rod going through the hole.I said 'shut it off, mouse nest in the valve chamber'.There was everything you can imagine packed tight in there-including a couple mice in bad shape, victims of the springs and lifters. After cleaning that out,we had the usual well-worn T valve racket. No sound deadening material!

It's not just T's that mice like, they invade modern cars as well. I've had to disassemble my wife's Honda heating ducts to get rid of mice, even in the fan unit! UGH, had to really clean stuff out to get rid of the smell! And this system even has air filters in it.
Then there was her Dad's '85 Dodge p/u, when we started it to sell it, the engine wouldn't idle, just raced. Hmm, pulled the air intake hose from the grill front to the air cleaner, and it was completely plugged with mouse nest!
Wish we had a real garage here (for the modern stuff--the "good stuff" stays indoors!) that MIGHT help keep these problems down!
T'
