Gilbert, MN? jb
I'm enjoying it too!
Maybe the doors to the left are for the Fire Department??
That's what I was thinking. Perhaps the one building did it all, village hall, fire department, police department, etc. I don't know how big Gilbert, MN was 100 years ago, but "Village" implies not too big. An economical approach to providing municipal services??
The building still exists! Where the garage doors are is now an antique shop. Very cool!
Gilbert is on the iron range in northeastern Minnesota.
In 1920, the population was over 3500 but it is about half that amount today.
There was a lot of activity and commerce in Gilbert during that time due to the iron mining industry.
There was also an interurban line between Gilbert and Hibbing.
Tom & Henry, you're probably correct. Many town halls served multiple tasks, all under one roof. Bet there's a neat Model T firetruck (or two) behind those doors!
Old photo taken about 3:00pm.
What happened to the cornish, upper roof line?
I think it was modernized to a Google stitch.
