They originally had a mesh screen attached on the inner piece - they were a 2 pc. affair. I've used copper, steel and rubber hose - no problems with any of those.

It's it's mounted to the bottom piece and folded up, acts like a dam across the opening between the two halfs of the oiler. At least on the ones I have seen.

would window screen be about the right mesh? thanks for the info above.

Going on memory, I think it was something like 1/8 X 1/8 inch hardware cloth. Window screen would be too fine and flimsy. Besides that, window screen is just woven material, the joints on hardware cloth are bonded. The window screen would come unraveled.

That might be a smidge tight - I have several originals here with the screen - I'll take a photo later for you.

For what it's worth, the screen grid in my Sure Feed oiler measures 1/8 x 1/8. It is hardware cloth and appears to be soldered to the catch ramp near the front edge and is bent up to completely block the reservoir that feeds the outlet.

Thanks William - saved me a trip over to the shop and taking a photo - I concur with the screen size.

Glen,
This is like manna from heaven! Rather than buy a used one on T-Bay, I will contact your staff on Monday to put in my order.
Thanks,
Mike
