It's interesting how different early model car horns sound. I'm familiar with some aftermarket horns too, like the old familiar wolf whistle. One sound that I hear when watching old car videos is a chirping noise like some jungle bird might make. I don't know if it is an aftermarket horn or not, maybe an exhaust whistle? It's one of the most annoying rackets that I know of.
I suspect that the sound you are referring to is that of and explosion whistle, those gizmos screwed into a spark plug hole. When the cable is pulled to operate the whistle it "chirps" each time that plug fires.
