"You cant please everyone So You Ya got to please yourself"

We need people with knowledge and expertise such as Yours on the forum, everybody contributes something, some more than others.

Stay on the Board we need your input.

At least on this forum You don't have board administrators who smother free speech and are laying in wait like snake's in the grass ready to strike and kick you off the board for no good reason, except Your post took issue with one of their Good Buddies view of how the world should be. There are very few posts on that board any more because the radio police are listening and when there is no reasonable expression of ideas and opinions allowed there is nothing much to talk about. No connection to The Frank on this Board.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Wayne Sheldon, Grass Valley, CA on Thursday, February 01, 2018 - 03:45 am:

People are very funny, strange, silly, sometimes stupid creatures (Hey, why should I pull a punch?).

I must have missed something again. This about you and Frank again????

A little side drift (Me? No way).

Something not generally known. Only a few very close friends are aware of this. And, NO, I will NOT reveal names or details enough for anybody to figure out who. In such a close-knit, friends and families sort of hobby such as ours, it had to happen. Two of my long time, best, closest, friends, can barely tolerate each other. A few common very close friends are aware of this, and sort-of maybe understand why. Just some silly, deep, personality clash. Hundreds (literally HUNDREDS) of people know them both. They are both active in several clubs, in common. They wind up on boards, committees, and lots of tours together. And very few people are ever aware of their mutual feelings. For the good of ALL, they worked it out, and they get along. I, for one, am grateful for that. I am sure that several other close friends in common are. Because none of us would want to have to chose between them, for anything. Both are wonderful, active in the clubs, knowledgeable, and helpful people.

A couple other two people I thought I knew.
Many years ago, for work, I ran a service call. I worked on some equipment, and then went to the clubhouse/meeting rooms where the business office was to discuss the results of what I had found. A local resident that I happened to know was there, talking with some of his friends. Off to the side, I was talking with the site manger. All of a sudden , the manager says "OH SH!---". I look over my shoulder to see another local resident had just walked into the meeting hall. Someone else I thought I knew, and liked. Within seconds, these two people that I had thought I knew, and dealt with on local system issues on several occasions, were in a full-on knock-down drag-out bare-knuckle punching fest! It took the manager and four other residents (who all obviously knew what I did not) to pull them apart.

Yeah. People are funny. Sometimes there is some unknown underlying character trait that they are not even aware of. But they just don't mesh well together.
I am very pleased (and proud of) my friends for recognizing this in themselves, and both learning to "deal with it".

Unfortunately, sometimes I think these issues are worse, not better, in open forums where the nuances of face-to-face communication are sometime lost on the typewritten pages (especially with mostly short posts).

I will say, that over the years, there have been a few people come and go that were NOT a loss when they left. Again, I don't want to say who. And certainly MOST of the people drawn to model T forums are intelligent, and contribute to those forums. Other than a few spammers and scammers that came just to sell inappropriate products anywhere they can trick their way onto, I cannot think of a single person on this forum in more than a year that I would like to have leave. And I can think of a dozen I wish would come back, or post much more often. Including, if not especially, Royce.

If this is about Hem and Frank???? (I don't know if that is what it is about or not?)
I would not want either one to leave. Both often add valuable information on a variety of threads and subjects.

I might hope both could tone down the name calling and p!$$!ng matches. Nobody wins with those. But if they cannot? I will do what I have done before, and stop reading that thread. If a thread is a good subject? Or important question? Somebody can start a new thread, and ask for a "tone-down" on it.

That is is my rambling opinion.
Sorry guys. I like both of you.

It's bad enough when somebody has to make some grand announcement that they are leaving, which is almost certainly a means of garnering attention and sympathy. If you have an interest in Fords built from 1896-1927 or so, then by all means, stay.

If you no longer do, or you cant stand having someone else disagreeing with you on obscure technical minutia and mechanical trivia, maybe you do need a break.

Dont take a poll, make a decision.

This Forum is somewhat like a nice big sandbox - different folks, different toys, different ways to build the sand castles.

Let's be nice and appreciate each other's ideas...look at the "improvements" to the Model T - water pumps, synthetic oil, fuel pumps...etc.

I think that "voting" is one of the most important aspects of a free and/or democratic society.
Once in a while, however, it would be nice to have a good set of options to vote for or against.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Susanne on Thursday, February 01, 2018 - 10:04 pm:

I can speak from experience that the only thing you will get from becoming a "former poster" is sad, separated from your friends, miss out on some good camaraderie, get hair growing out of your ears, become an IRS audit target, your source of 600W will dry up, your motor will develop small, unusual noises that are hard to track down... and you'll be tempted to buy cars that have a model number midway between 480 and 500, formal neckware on the radiator shell, and like to break rear axles... or even worse, air cooled flat 4's that leak as bad as Lizzie...

Or at least most of that's what happened to me when I did that. Best thing I ever did - was come back. Quote me on that!

Unless you give up on the hobby altogether, I recommend staying. Because even if you have a tiff with another member, it's only ONE person out of a whole huge group of maniacal, insane Fordaholics.

Here's my 2 cents worth. This forum is for everyone interested in model t's, regardless of your politics, religion or for that fact your personal opinions.

Why should we be asked to salve your ruffled feelings and pumping up your ego, by voting to have you stay around? I for one don't care either way and would not waste the effort to prop up your bruised ego.

Put you big girl panties on and decide for your self, either stay or go. Keep in mind we faced this similar issue with Royce, he pouted and then left. Guess what after a few days he was easily forgotten and that same with happen to you. If you decide to leave so be it then you to will be yesterdays news and soon forgotten.

I dare say don't cut your nose off to spite your face. By posting here offering your expertise, I'm sure your business has prospered. So by your getting in a stit and leaving will only cost you money, seems to me as a business man for nearly 50 years, that is a very poor decision on your part.

just sayin'

Hal- Thank you for pointing out the obvious. In my above comment when I said "what a stupid post" this is exactly what I meant. This topic has absolutely nothing to do with Model Ts, It's all about a commercial vendor who needs to have his ego stroked. It's bad enough that he promotes his business free of charge 24-7 on this site, but then has the gall to ask people to "vote" for his supremacy?? The strokers are just as bad. The moderator should delete this whole thread.

Herm,
What r u trying to do commit Forum Suer-cide.
Clubs r 4 all of us. Some of us r crazy I agree.
It comes from old age, too much money (to buy the REAL stuff), or a nose stuck in the place making the sewer drip. Purists think differently. Those of us who put our cars together from just parts are sometimes frowned on. Even though some of us make our cars so exact that it is very difficult to tell which is which. I LOVE original (real ones) as they aid me in my searches for my cars and work to be right. But as far as Ford cars of the early years go... which IS totally right? It's guys like you who help.
PS I just lost a fellow classmate from High School. He started a Pontiac club here locally. Died of cancer (smoked all his life). He was a cantankerous old coot sometimes. I asked him shortly before he died... WHY? He replied that it made him laugh to watch the conversation go crazy on his forum. "I got a rise out of em". ??? Dumb I thought. But that was him! Even back in high school I NOW remember (because he's gone). Yep! He was doing it then also. I had to look deep within myself to see it. One does this some after someone is gone. But, IT WAS him. True HE did not think how the other persons felt.... but that was just him. He never was grouchy to me. But I have seen him do it on E's and his forum. He seemed to be another person.
Herm I try to donate my experiences "how"I did it to my cars but a lot of times I hear flak back so I just go away and don't participate for a couple of years as I am thin skinned too. I try to not be the BIG cahuna or the know it all but when I catch flak or uncaring words I just back into my OTHER cars and go on with life. Sad isn't it? But some of us DO have feelings (and great cars or we use to). Mine are all in parts and rust unassembled. Many on the forum do not build their stuff and do not know the fun or frustrations of finding real original parts cheaply to add to their car that they have spent a lifetime gathering parts. In FACT they actually HATE me for finding or using the original part on MY car. Like a child they are. But do not quit. Don't give in. Some of us need your knowledge. They need to remember
Sooner or later we ALL end up in the grave. And that car they loved so much, is now owned by someone else. I saw a 1910 touring car once many years (many) ago made into a hot rod. The owner had died and the wife sold that car to a fella who would keep it the same. He did not. I bought some parts from him for my car someday. While he put a Mustang engine in it. Drove it around and sold it. ??? Some of us only build while others only tour. I do not have that kind of money it takes to tour. So I just build and drive them a little before I sell them. Seems that the next owner is the one making all the profit. As they sell for a lot more money then I sold them to that owner.
A CLUB should be welcome to all.

Ok, I will ride the wave a little longer.

I am though, much surprised that the yeses, and Noes weren't turned around, that's the way it has always seamed.

I also got 63 Noes on my Web Site e-Mail, Most said they wouldn't want to post on here, about this. Some said they don't post at all.

Where can I get some of those Shameless Free Ads you are talking about, that I can make thousands of dollars with, well, it just doesn't exist Davis-SE.

Then, SE Davis, an EGO, really, anybody that knows me, knows that is a long way from the truth.

Davis-SE, after reading your posts several times, I can see, that if you had as much Jealousy you have, stuck out of you, as you have stuck in you, you would look like a Porcupine.

Davis SE, I don't ever remember of anybody stroking my EGO. My girl friend read that part, and and said, I wouldn't start with your EGO.

You know, SE Davis, The first post you ever involved me in, you were derogatory, and nothing has changed with that. I see now, you even have , Suck Up Help Now! Heck, you could even start your own MS-13 Gang, with the rest of the 8 to 10 members.

Frank, L.O.L., I don't have any problem with you at all. I did think it was funny when you were one of the first to put in a NO, so as to shed off possible under laying fault.

Well, enough Fun, and merriment.

P.S. to all the people that I have helped with machining, and rebabbitting questions over the years, you can still call, as before, nothing has changed.

Thanks,

Herm.

Well Herm, you would not win a competition in diplomacy, but I appriciate your sharing of knowledge - even though not always in line with my experience - or believe.
And that is what makes the world turn around.
So stay.

I say stay that’s for sure. I’m not aware of what happened or with who but your input has always been informative to me!

No possible under laying fault from me Herm, I never implied you should leave the forum, must have been someone else's suggestion!

Herm,

I guess you need to go back and re-read or have someone read to you, my posts. I was not the one who said anything about any free ads. Jealousy? Please! You are the LAST person I would EVER want to be like! You are WAY off the mark there. As for your other statements, I don't have time to try to muddle through the incoherent babbling to try to even figure out what the hell you are trying to say. As for your sexual innuendo, what are you? 15 years old? Please.

For the most part, Herm, I don't give you a second thought, which is why I said I didn't care one way or the other whether you stayed or went. And I don't. Not that I ever thought you would leave anyway. You just keep continuing to keep score. It makes you feel good. That's fine with me, man.

Good Day.

Sure would be nice if you two could put the past behind us...shake hands, and get back to spreading around the wealth of knowledge you both have.

We readers would become so much more enlightened about the quirks (and possible repairs) to the beloved Model T.

Peace guys???

WOW, I have to say I'm disappointed with this entire post. Please, let's all keep it about the hobby, and do our best to help each other enjoy it.
