Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2018: Good things about Mac's

There have been many bad reports about Mac's on this forum, but I wanted to make sure that the positive side also gets posted. I recently had an issue with a glass kit ordered from Mac's. I won't go into why I didn't get it from a local source, just say that I live a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride from the mainland, local sources are limited and the ferry isn't free.

Any way I wanted to say that Mac's was very responsive and their supplier was also very pleasant in resolving the issue. The customer rep at Mac's even called me to make sure I was satisfied with the replacement. Their vendor at Twin City glass was also most pleasant.

while my favorite vendor for T is Don Lang, I do have other cars so deal with other vendors and can say that Mac's does back up their products.

I've had good luck with Macs and gotten good people on the phone when asking about stock questions. Any rare parts or weird, I go to the T specialists like Langs.

I've never really had a problem with them either.

Maybe their well deserved bad reputation got back to the new owners and they are trying to fix it. I'll order from them again when there have been as many threads like this as threads like that. Until then.....fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

RJ,

The question is; WHEN?

When Mac's was a stand alone company, the service and parts were good to very good. Once Eckler's bought Mac's out, the service went right down the toilet. Thus, all the well deserved complaints.

Now, I see both Mac's and Eckler's are selling on tbay. Tbay will NOT put up with slow delivery so something must have changed.

Now, we will see if the level of service required by tbay will transfer to the serving of the general public. I sure hope so. We need all the good vendors we can find and ill afford to lose any one of them.

Good Luck,
Terry

I know of a couple T's that have been restored using exclusively parts from Mac's and without any issue. The couple parts I bought from them (that I couldn't find anywhere else) came quickly and were exactly as I had expected them.

I have never had any problem with Mac's, or any of the other vendors for that matter. I had an order from Snyder's have the box torn open by Fedex, and they lost most all of the order. Snyder's had replacement order to me in a couple days. I thought that was great customer service.

Never had an issue with them.

RJ,

My question was concerning the time frame you ordered parts from Mac's. If you ordered before Eckler's bought them, I totally understand the fine service. If you have ordered since they have been selling on tbay, I can understand better service. It seems that everyone who has dealt with them between these two times has had bad service. That's all I'm saying. I would never blame you for any issue I might have. Nor would I infer blame. I apologize if my writing made you feel as if I was laying blame on you.

Just for the record, I have NOT ordered from Mac's. I acquired my vehicles after Eckler's purchased them and have heeded warnings from others about the service. If the service has indeed improved, I will be happy to deal with them.

Terry

Terry no problem. I get my parts within 3-5 business days when I order parts with the exception if their supplier has the item back ordered for weeks which means the other catalog companies is out of stock also I always ask to confirm if it’s in stock

Terry I don’t buy parts on eBay for my cars just buy personal and business stuff only or use Amazon

I have to say that I haven't had any big issues with Mac's before or after they made the ownership change.

I just received an order placed Feb. 1, last Thursday arrived this morning Feb. 4. I'm in Florida Good service, very reasonable shipping cost. A non Model T parts purchase

However all of my Model T purchases, will be bought from Model T guys, like Lang's Chaffin's, Snyder's Bob's and others. These are suppliers we are very lucky to have supplying our hobby. Can you imagine restoring our Model T's without them.

Thanks to these dedicated people

I have never had a problem with MACs. That being said, they don't send sales emails any more and you have to price check them on everything. Even with 10 - 15% off they are usually higher than everyone else. They used to have the best prices on tire tubes. I haven't had any problems with the tubes I bought from them.

I restored many Model A’s and T’s with parts ordered from Mac’s back in the 80’s and 90’s. Dave in their upholstery shop was MOST helpful, I appreciated all his help and patience. I have gravitated toward Lang’s and Birdhaven since then, most satisfying along with Snyder’s.

My problem with them is that 6 days after ordering parts they would send me an email telling me they were processing my order.
After the new owners took over I got the same treatment. Six days after the order date I got an email saying they were processing my order.
Six days?
There was some posting about the great illustrations in their catalogue.

Ya, Mac’s have a nice catalogue that comes in handy when you need to look at pictures but they have nothing on Chaffin’s and a couple of others when it comes to an excellent, well illustrated catalogue.

I suppose it comes down to expectations, and everyone is different when it comes to that. Six days and they are just processing the order? Doesn't sound like anything has changed to me. Receiving your order in two weeks? If that meets your expectations and you are happy with that, then so be it. With few exceptions, Lang's and Snider's ship same day so long as you don't call at quittin' time. Lang's is a 3 day delivery and Snider's is a 2 day delivery to where I live. Obviously, shipping time is a function of the carrier, but getting the order processed, filled and on the truck is a function of the vendor. You could not ask for better from Lang's or Snider's. I suppose that if I was content to wait two weeks, then maybe I couldn't ask for better from Mac's, but I'm not content to wait two weeks. I have higher expectations.
