A co-worker, taking the day off. Just brought this to me. It is bigger than the MotoMeter that I am running on the car.
Any idea what it might have come off of?

I know Boyce made a Junior and a Senior Motometer and possibly an in-between size.

Here we go.

This one measures 5" from top to bottom of the unit.
It does have the beveled crystals. If this the small one. The Standard and De Luxe must be huge.

Now for the other question. What is it worth?

I would say it is the Standard. The De Luxe has a little more material around the out side. If it works you might get $50 to $ 100 for it. If not, much less. I have seen asking prices as high as $300 but that is not very practical.

There is a variety of asking prices here. Scroll down for the more reasonable ones.

Search eBay for similar ones that have sold. After reading about the vibrating weight breaking off radiator filler necks, I'll pass.

Some good prices there! LOL You really need to know which are old and which are new.

I love Boyce Motometers. If the weight and vibration breaks my radiator neck, I will just have to take some things apart, strike up the torch, and solder it.
Evaluating them is not simple. Many people ask many hundreds of dollars for common generic Boyce meters. They are not worth that much. There are many minor size and style differences that can make some worth a bit more, but the common generic Boyce like you have might sell for a bit under a hundred dollars, in nearly perfect condition. I don't think I ever paid more than sixty dollars for one of those, but I have paid more for some rare early or special models. Most like this, I have paid less than fifty dollars, some in very nice condition. The last one I bought, only a few years ago, I gave $30 for one like that in slightly worse condition. Bought it as a spare because it was cheap, and needing a good cleaning, but in working condition.

Ones with marque face plates (specific makes of cars) can get really complicated to value. You can NOT base value of the meter on the desirability of the car it belongs on. One of the most common marque meters is the Packard meter. They are so common, that most '10s/'20s Packard owners that want one? Already have two or three. The Packard meter does sell for more than the generic Boyce, but not by much. I have known several people to buy nice Packard meters in working condition simply so they could swap the generic Boyce face plate from a meter in lesser condition and have a nice standard Boyce.
Many marque meters sell in the less than $100 to $200 range, depending on marque and condition. Ones really worth much more? Takes research. How rare are they? And how desirable are they really? My Paige is fairly rare, but not a lot of Paige owners are looking to buy one. A really nice one may be worth $200.
Some rare and desirable car meters can easily sell in the $600 to $900 range. Don't ask me which ones, that sort of thing does seem to change in waves of sales.
But get ready to hang onto your hat. Some Fire Engine meters commonly sell for thousands. And a very few original tractor meters have recorded sales even a bit higher (I heard of one sell for $5000). But you must know which ones before foolishly buying something that isn't cheap.
