As we get older many of us are faced with medical challenges.

When I see posts where friends or someone in their family are dealing with medical procedures or disasters I say a prayer for them and realize how blessed I am for having relatively good health at 73yo.

Today I was my turn to have a small “old guy” procedure done and I am being forced to stay in a chair for a few days with a catheter.
For those that may be wondering, it was Green light rotor-rooter to decrease the size of my prostrate.
I guess that it is called green light because it tells the pee it can go.

I was hopping to sneak into the basement to work on the Model A steering box but it hurts every time I try to move.
I stay as far as possible from Rx pain relievers so I can’t look to happy pills for relief.

I figure that I’ll loose my mind (what’s left of it) by mid-day tomorrow due to inactivity so I’ll apologize in advance for making stupid and inflammatory comments.

First of all, good luck with your recovery and your growing insanity!
I'm pushing 70 y/o, and for a number of years have been un-apologetically patting myself on the back for not having all the problems my friends have. Then last year smacked me up side the head, and I seemed to have every problem all at once that my friends have been accumulating for years. Joint replacement (thank you Rob Heyen for the advice), multiple cancer surgeries, "Tommy John" surgery, cataract surgery, etc. Every time they fixed one thing, they found two more. Because of my shoulder surgery, I haven't been able to crank my T's (no starters) and take them for a mind-cleansing drive for several months!
Hope everyone has a healthier 2018 and you get those T's on the road.

Dare I ask? What in tarnation is "Tommy John" surgery?

Feel your pain. Going in myself at the end of the month for something similar. Don't know what green light means exactly but a catethar is in the future.

Tommy John was a pitcher for the LA Dodgers (1970's?) who tore the ligaments in his pitching arm elbow. His career would have been over but they came up with a surgery where they remove the affected ligaments, drill holes in the end of the bones at the joint, take a tendon from the non-pitching arm and "tie" the bones together by lacing it thru the holes like you would do with a shoelace! It's standard surgery now for most MLB pitchers.
I've had it done to my elbow once, and shoulder twice (modified "Tommy John" surgery). On my shoulder, they took a less-essential tendon from my lower left leg (twice).

They probably would have developed the surgery much sooner if they had just asked a Model T guy how he keeps his car together (bailing wire and duct tape?

The old car crowd at our Swap Meet has gone from discussing what car we are working on to what our last or present ailment is. We take our turn and hope for the best. I have awakened alive from my share of surgeries. Losing my mind and memory has lessened the pain of growing older. Mother nature takes good care of us.

If they added a red and blue laser we could call it the Christmas procedure.

It only hurts when I move or laugh.

One good thing is that we are getting 12-18 inches of snow today / tomorrow and I have to stay in the chair.

Yep, 12-12-17 heart attack, 1-15-18 a little bottom end repair, and 2-14-18 a rotator cuff repair. I'm exhausted, and I'm only 67. I'm wanting to continue on a speedster build, and I'm stuck. ha

Thanks, Bob. I went ahead and googled the t/j surgery after I posted the question above. Sounds pretty serious.

I had a total knee replacement four weeks ago and it still hurts a lot, I have to use a walker and do therapy several times a week. I am 78 and the constant pain wears me out.

Had the rotor rooter done about 3 years ago. The doc told me I would be able to pi## like an 18yo. you know he was right, everything comes out quick and easy AND, I sleep all thru the night.

well worth a couple of days of discomfort, don't be alarmed after about a week you will see a large clot coming out, natural scar tissue, just part of the healing process. I was up and moving in about 3 days and within a week I was back in the car barn, slowly but at least there. 3 weeks and I was totally healed and doing what ever I wanted.

I'm 76 and this getten' old business ain't half as much fun as I thought it would be but far far
better than the alternative.

A friend reckoned he had matured sufficiently to go south for the winter. First time. He found himself bummin' around Wickenburg gettin' bored as hell when he stumbled onto a group of guys who got together a couple of times a week to rope. Nothing formal, you just showed up, so he eased in, made a couple of friends, and one day a new buddy pointed across the arena and said, "See that ol' boy ? 92 ! Still ridin', still ropin' !"

Well, that fired him with the desire to talk to that old man and learn the secret of his continued vigor. When he finally got the chance, the old man looked at him kinda squinty-eyed, tapped a bony finger on his chest and told him, "Sonny, I got a word of advice for you. You git a chance to die . . . you TAKE IT !! "

Bob Bishop, your car, the one I helped you with the engine, has a ring gear on the flywheel. We could replace the hogs head and install a starter. I can help you, if you would like to do it. And if you are concerned about keeping it original, could keep the original hogs head for later re-installation. I would like to see you back on the road. Hope you will soon be free from your afflictions. Will pray for you.

I am personally very lucky to be in good health at 75-----My bride is having half a lung removed next week with two very small tumors found early because our great family doctor ordered tests just before Thanks Giving-----things can change quick, good doctors should be listened to.

A guy in cardiac rehab told me he mentioned having some dizziness at the horse races to his Doctor. He had been drinking rum and cokes. His Doctor told him to cut out the Coke.

After spending 4 days in urgent care, er and hooked up to tubes and machines, a heart catheterization and some other procedures, sent home with half a dozen perscriptions and Dr appts spread from tomorrow to August it has occurred to me I may not be as tough as I thought.

Fred Dimock - Been thru' the same procedure myself, and I can tell you that the worst part of it was that darn catheter! And that's really no big deal,... just sort of uncomfortable for a few days. You'll be rid of that soon and feel a lot better!

Stan Howe - Been wondering how's come we haven't heard much from you lately! Do what the "doc" says and you'll be back in the shop b4 ya' know it! If it's any consolation, I had two heart attacks, two weeks apart, in 1984! Sheesh,.... 18 years ago, and I'm feel'n great!

Let's see, in 18 years, you'll only be,....ahhh,....er,....well,.... maybe I'd just better shut up and wish you well and let it go at that!
