Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2018: OT more silliness

CD player in my pick-em-up truck went out some time ago, so on a round trip to Burley, Id. today I was reduced to entertaining myself and my dog Hannah by more traditional means . . . Those of you familiar with the old cowboy standard "The Strawberry Roan" might like this Model T adaptation. At least Hannah did !

I was hangin' 'round NAPA just wastin' my time,
Out of a job wasn't earnin' a dime,
When up steps this feller he says I suppose,
You're a T Ford mechanic by the looks of your clothes,
You figures me right I know all the tricks,
Do you happen to have any jitneys to fix ?
He says we got one that's baffled us all,
It ain't broke down but it won't run a-tall

I gets all hit up and I ask what he'll pay,
To wrench on his Ford by the hour or the day,
He says he's got ten and I says I'm your man,
I know the T Ford from muffler to fan,
He says git yer toolkit I'll put you in charge,
We drive in his touring straight to his garage,
I think it was noon by the height of the sun,
When I stepped out to see if this flivver would run

Out in the back lot alone by itself,
Was Rugged Old Lizzie had belonged to Steve Jelf,
It had four flat tires and was leakin' some oil,
A plugged radiator I reckoned would boil,
Cracks in the windshield the top is in rags,
The front seat is covered with old gunny-bags,
Rusty and old with sagging leaf-springs,
I could see with one eye she would need lots of things

I grabs for a jack and my tools in a pail,
Never a-thinkin' perhaps I might fail,
I raises the hood and Lord I knew then,
Before she gets fixed well I'll sure earn my ten !
I cleans up the spark-plugs then screws 'em down tight,
Next comes the coils and I sets 'em up right,
I check for compression and that's lookin' good,
I check out the valve train the way that I should,
I set up the timing a quarter past three,
Adjusting the clutch I make sure that it's free,
I check out the timer and it seems okay,
This Rugged Old Lizzie will sure run today !

I start in to crankin' she's switched to the MAG,
I struggle and strain and work 'til I sag,
Then I rest for awhile and I try it on BAT,
But there's no sign of life the motor is flat,
I know there are autos that I cannot mend,
There's some of 'em left they'll be there 'til the end,
I'll bet all my money the man ain't alive,
Who can start Rugged Lizzie and go for a drive !

. . . as was aptly put on another thread, I'll show myself out. Thanks for your patience ! ; )

Love it Rich. By the way, whats a CD player? I think a utube video of you singing your new song is in order.

I tried all I knew, but it warn't enough.
Old Rugged Lizzie was just way too tough.
I pulled on that crank till my old arm was sore,
With nary a cough, nor a sputter or snore.
Compression was good, and so was the spark,
But whatever I tried, I was still in the dark.
I ain't very bright, but I know when to yield,
So thar she sits, out back in the field.

I walked up to Lizzie in the field all alone,
And looked in the gas tank, it was dry as a bone.
Well I filled it with gas and turned on the key,
and it started right up just as nice as can be.
The work Rich and Steve did made that old engine sing,
They only forgot just one little thing.

"Said he's got one, a bad one to buck. For tirin' good cranker's, he's had lots of luck."
