Anyone going to the Autofair April 5-8? I went last year as I have for the past 25-30. Last year was my first looking for T parts. I found a few. I plan to go again this year but will be limited to how much I can walk due to the recovering from hip/pelvis reconstruction.

I have a spot in the orange field. I'm not sure if I will be taking any T parts, Not many T buyers at The Auto Fair.

I'll be there as usual in the Green field I believe MG 61_62 and Darryl is correct not many T parts you really gotta look close to find them. There is usually a guy up in the red field with a good assortment of parts I think he goes by Broken Axle Ranch or something similar. Jim

The auto fair is HUGE and alot of walking
Last time I went was spring of 2006.and it is about 20 miles from my house.
Now that I own the 47 pontiac,I could use a couple decent doors but gosh, walking that whole place, just don't know if I am up to.
If you are in the market for Mustang,Camero,55 chevys and what I consider work trucks from the 70's it is the place to go.
There was very few T parts that I could find that year and handicap parking is along ways from the gate. The club putting on the show had golf carts flying around like buzzards but don't think for 1 minute they offered to stop and offer to give me a ride to the gate toting a model A bumper for what seemed 2 miles to the car.I HOPE that policy has changed and they offer some kind of help to folks transporting parts. After 9-11 they stopped allowing vendors to use golf carts and that really made it hard for people to get their purchases out the gate without a struggle.
The other swap meets mentioned here seem to appeal to me alot more.

Mac, The Hornets Nest Region of the AACA puts on this show, and they do now help with getting parts out to the parking lots. They started doing this a few years ago. They do allow motorized scooters to be used for people who cant do all that walking. You are right about the vendors though, very little pre '50s items. I will have mostly early V8 parts, and will most likely bring most of it back home.

Maybe there would be more T parts buyers if more people would take their T parts to sell. We, T parts buyers can't buy them if they are not there. Maybe T parts don't bring enough money to be worth the trouble?

Tom, its a numbers game. The number of people looking for the older stuff is getting smaller, the number of people looking for '60s & '70s parts is getting larger. At $190 for a weekend swap meet spot, I wish I had '69 camaro & '72 chevy truck parts to sell rather then Model T & early V8 parts. I have gone to every one for the last 15 years and there has never been much for T stuff. I will be going to Luray VA with T parts though. If you decide to come down, stop by row R, spot 044 in the orange field.

Well, I debated for a couple days about going to the autofair and I had a 2 dollar coupon burning a hole in my pocket. So I went.
I must say I am glad I did and the club was very helpful as in I got a ride out to the gate when I was toting a fender.
I got a pair of TT wheels,20 inch. VERY heavy because they have 8.25-20 tires on them.
Spokes are decent. Much better than the 1's on my dump truck now so eventually they will get swapped out. I have new spokes but could not install them the 1 time I tried but these wheels will run me on out the rest of the time I will need a TT.
And, I got what I think is a reproduction, nos left rear fender for my pickup project for a good price.
Plus a few small parts. Found fender skirts for a style 27 pontiac but not a 26 streamliner like mine. :-(
I made it walking but must admit,I am suffering now some.I ate 2 goodie powders to help stave off the aches and pains till I got home.
I noticed alot of handicap scooters. I have a old 1 I can fix up.BUT I also saw a couple of the 3 wheel warehouse scooters by Cushman in use. I have a Taylor Dunn 3 wheel scooter that needs tinkering. It may get fixed and used the next time I attend a show this size!

Tommy,I have gone to the Auto Fair at Charlotte for years. I show my 1911 touring. The Model T's coming out have dwindled. There are few T parts out in the flea Market.
I can't go this year because my wife just had a knee put in and I can't leave her.
You should go to the flea market At Luray. Dennis does a fine job. There are a lot of T parts.

Mack, If you were in the green field I wish you could have stopped at our space and said hello, I would have loved to say hello to a fellow forum member. Sorry to say with the weather reports we are seeing we will be heading back to Ohio in the morning instead of back to the Green field. Jim

I went again this year, today actually. Since I now walk slower than I used to, and with a cane, I didn't cover the whole thing but did cover most of the outside fields. I found 3 plastic repop T coils. I know they are not the most desirable ones but I have 4 good coils in mine now and I figure someone would be glad to be able to drive home on all four cylinders in case a wooden one "wouldn't" run any more. I gave $5.00 each. I also bought a pair of anti-rattle thingies for the rear brake rods for $5.00. I was given a free timer for a wall hanger, probably. It is the roller type and I like my New-Day
so I will continue to use it.
I bought two NOS vacuum wiper motors for my '55 Studebaker truck for $15.00 for the pair. I might not be able to walk tomorrow but I'm ok now.

:-)

James I covered it purty good in the green field. I didn't see much T stuff in that field except for a 26 chassis with fiber glass fenders and a 24 title for 1100 bucks. I bought a 5 dollar roll of red rubber mat and made a couple "donations" for cold drinks while in the green field.
Smith and Jones spot seemed sparse to what I remember it being years back. The big bus was not there.I didn't look at any show cars at all. I used to go the tent and look at stuff but since I was walking and afraid of running out of steam,I figured I better cover the flea section.
I had wrote down some site numbers but the paper lost of my pocket :-(

You guys should try and go to the Swap Meet in Greenwood SC in a few weeks. It is Model A and T ONLY. The guy putting it on told me last year they had around 15 vendors plus 2 commercial vendors and some cars for sale. Looks like that is more than there was at Charlotte. I am planning on bringing a trailer load of T stuff.

Then next month there is Luray. Dan

I am figuring on going down there.I talked to a vender at Charlotte that lives about 20 miles from that show that has alot of t stuff on his place.

Enjoyed the Charlotte auto fair as always. Swap meet part is a real treasure hunt. This year I saw more old stuff than in the previous couple of years. A friend I was with found a pair of really nice early clincher rims for ten bucks each. That's real treasure! I bought a couple of motometers, some early auto advertising pins for my collection, a few Champ X plugs and one early mica insulator plug for my collection. Saw a mess of steering assemblies, front and rear ends, all kinds of bits and pieces for T and A. Its long walk down some rows before you see much of interest for early cars, but it was there. Did anyone else oogle over the real early 15 Center Door Sedan shown in the HPOF class? It was wet Sat and many vendors packed up Friday PM but before then, it was great walking and looking.
Terry

I found a decent pair of rear demountable 30x3 1/2 wheels missing the rims so I passed on them because rims are so expensive. Did your friend buy the rims from the man in the red field that had the wheels?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Mack Cole ---- Earth on Sunday, April 08, 2018 - 11:31 pm:

There was 3 demount-able rims, only 1 had the whole latch in the red field.I priced them, went back a hour later and they were at another venders spot a few rows over that had some rear axles and such on a trailer.

That was a blast day of Autofair, parking was affordable and easy to get in. Was able to see a lot and picked up some much needed things. There was something for the kids too, like a kneed scooters. Will be back when it comes again for sure.I think its in fall of 2018!
