Trying to find a good usable armature or complete Simms-Huff Starter/Generator for 1918-20 Maxwell. Brass data tag should read Type HM or Type M or Type SMS. Having a hard time finding information on how long this style was used but we need the large octagon Starter/Generator that is straight 12 volts and not the earlier start on 12 volts run on 6 volts.

Is there an old fashioned repair shop in your area that can rewind what you have?

Steve, Thanks I have the same spares for my 1917 using the 12/6 but a friend with a 1918 needs the 12/12 as Maxwell changed batteries then.

Ted, he has a shop offering to rewind his for the bargain price of $1100.00, cheap at twice the price!

Just out of curiosity does anyone know IF the 1917 and 1918 armatures looked similar might it be possible to rewind either in a 12 volt OR 6 volt configuration or would the difference be other than windings. Electricity isn't my strong suit so forgive me if this a stupid question, I ask out of desperation.

Give this guy a ring, he has rebuilt several M?G units for me over the years and does excellent work. He is a bit slow but does excellent work.

I always say with shop project your have three choices, price, quality or time. However, you may only choose two of them. Jason does good work at a fair price but his work load forces him to be a bit slow.
