I bought a 1925,engine this weekend that appears to have a fresh rebuild done to it. It has new bands, transmission drums are in great shape, the one triple gear I can reach is tight. In looking in the valve port to see if it has the two piece valves(it doesn't ), I noticed on the intake valves, there are very fine conical shaped springs around each valve, with the big end up, against the head of the valve. The small end is down, pushing what appears to be a valve seal against the top of the guide. In 42 years as a professional mechanic, I've never seen anything like this! The engine still has the cast iron Pistons in standard bores, with no signs of wear. The owner had prepared this engine to go in a restoration project that he was waiting on a title for. In the meantime, a much better car came available, so this engine sat. The owner Unfortunately passed away before finishing either project.
Well William, I have some 48 years up on engine rebuilding from lawn mowers to earth moving and any thing in-between, I'll have to say, it's a new one for me as well!
