Yesterday I was working on the old TT C Cab (see profile pic) to prepare it for the Battle of Flowers Parade in San Antone later this month. It’s perfect for parades with an original cast iron Warford and a Ruckstell. Since I hadn’t driven it in about a year, I accomplished the usual servicing and decided to go for a test drive. Well, try as I might I couldn’t get it into low Ruckstell. So I did the first research on the problem that came to mind. I googled:” MTFCA hard shifting into low Ruckstell. “
Was pleasantly surprised when quite a few threads appeared. Lots of guys just gave their tried and true technique of shifting into and out of low Ruckstell and a few threads drifted from the engine ‘pulling’ or ‘pushing’ the TT. Finally I read a short but succinct answer from our late and great Forum Friend John Danuser. He said, “ Your shifter is dry. Pull it off, clean it out and repack with new grease”. Since it’s only been 20-odd years since I rebuilt that rear end, I considered that good advice and followed it. Sure enough, it was dry as a hot popcorn fart. I cleaned the hard grease out and repacked it. Then I took it a step further and stood the long nose shifter on its nose and trained a heat lamp on the new grease for about an hour. Reinstalled it and went for a test drive and it shifted like a champ....Many thanks John Danuser

Thanks George, that was a nice thing to post about our friend John Danuser. He would be really pleased that he was able to help you.

I wonder how many people will be reading our stuff in another 100 years, fixing problems with solutions that we have had to rediscover. No one will know or miss us then. Over the past year when doing a search and gathering info, I run across profiles that no longer exist. John Danuser is one of many I have never met but I hope people say nice things about us when we are gone.

Im telling you guys, this info is timeless. I searched MTFCA for info on getting a tube, flap and tire on the rim. Seemed impossible as I sat on the shop floor sweating. A 2009 post had the answer I needed. 15 minutes later the wheel was back on the T. Keep it coming as it will be used forever.
