All,

Can anyone help me identify this Depot Hack, or point me to someone who can? I can't find any markings or data plates anywhere on it. I need tailgate hinges and latches for it and I don't know what to ask for. It came of an early 1917 chassis.

Real nice hack.

Like the front doors of metal, seems to be earlier like '15 or so type body. Don't know the mfg.

But the rear tail gate pieces on the side are the receiver for the typical long handle cam lever latch. Sometimes the latch pieces can be found at swaps.

Alternate way is to place a long loop of chain fitting to the round hole receiver, and then when closed, the long loop is placed over a matching receiver that is hand forged and fitting on the post. The chain hook end then fits into the hole of the post receiver and locks the tail gate. When down, the chain can keep the tail gate horizontal too.





Closed loop similar to that used on Ford factory pickup beds.

Looks like one of the Syverson Bodies built in Illinois. They were built for restorers during the 1960s through 1980s or 1990s.

Mine does look like it takes the cam latch. As noted, I borrowed a repo from a friend, but the pivot hole seems too big compared to the the iron where I think it would attach. More research....

The door handles are pretty cool. They look like the ones in the Martin Parry catalog. I thought I had a 'country club' or 'fancy baggage' body, but those have 3 sections behind the rear door and I only have two. Maybe I have an earlier one?

I'll do a search for a Syverson catalog to see if its a closer match. Would they have used square nuts and flat tip wood screws?

Great to hear from you Roger - glad you are still playing Ts. I've often wished I'd taken photos of that old touring we hauled out of the weeds in NC. Would love to see those here on the forum. The Depot Hack body is interesting. There was an original body in the Richmond area years ago but I don't know what ever became of it. Yes-still enjoying our 14 Wide Track touring car. Will be catching a couple of tours this year and we're contemplating hauling it to upstate NY for the AACA Reliability Tour later this year.
