On a '24 Touring, what type of screws are used in the 4 holes where the body sides and quarter panels overlap? Looks like the screw heads will not be easily seen behind the fenders, but would like to use the correct ones if possible. Thanks for any guidance.
They are round head, slotted wood screws, and they are hidden by the fender.
Charley Shaver told me the size once, but I can't remember what size he told me. Can someone else help with the size?
# 10 x 3/4". charley
Thanks guys. Makes it easy when you ask the experts!
I believe this is what you are screwing in to and they are a tapered wood screw. Restoration Supply in CA has the screws.
The ones I was talking about were these on my 1925 touring body. Note that only the top two of the four screws per side are installed in these pictures.
bodies with 3 piece rear tubs use round headed. pre 22 with 5 piece used flat headed. charley
Mark's photos show the rear quarter panels overlap the body side panels. I have mine installed the opposite way. Thanks for the photo clarification. I would have thought the side panels would overlap the quarters to help deflect water intrusion, but what do I know?
Thanks guys!
Mike, it's possible they should overlap the other way, this body had been apart and the wood partially replaced before I got it.
Charley, any insights into the correct direction of overlap?
when building a body you start at the frt to back, so the rear panels go on last. so mark has it right charley
The side body panel has a recess stamped in it to fit the rear quarter over as in the picture.
