Is a coil with a resistance between the side contacts of 2300 ohms defective?
Thanks
Is it a Ford coil or a K-W? The K-W coils generally had resistance in that range. Fords, if good, are closer to 3000.
The coil in question doesn't seem to have any markings. Maybe it was re-build and the refinishing, removed the labels. It has fairly new points.
When I use my neon tester on the spark plug wires, I get varying brightness on different cylinders. When I short out the spark plug with a screw driver (on the dimmer cylinders), I don't notice much of a reduction of RPM. I ordered some more re-built coils, and will retire the apparent weaker ones.
What is the best way to acquire a spare set of good coils?
Send some old coils to Ron Patterson and have him rebuild and adjust them. then when you get them back, swap out the ones in your car and send them to Ron. You will be amazed how much better your car will run.
Hot Dog! I installed three more re-built coils. The thing runs like a top.
John:
Target resistance in the secondary windings would be 3200 ohms range ( + - ) for standard Ford coils.
Thanks Bob,
I'll return the marginal ones.
