Got my speedster blasted today. Was done with a dustless blasting rig, glass and water. No warping. Has some funky old repairs.
Looks awesome, what number is your body? Is this the same car in your profile? Please post more pictures.
That is a great body.
Naked is beautiful. Nice.
Does your wife know about this secret fetish with naked speedster bodies?
Well Rick, the wife is all in on the speedster. But she would like it dressed as soon as possible.
She does have some nice curves
Is it safe to assume that you’re going to paint the car black? After all... it is hanging like a bat! ;)
I don't think I can afford the bodywork to paint it black. The pictures aren't upside down on my screen.
Andy, are you familiar with body lead ? The "funky repairs" you refer to appear as if they are leaded spots meant to forgive imperfect joints in panels that were probably beat to shape by hand. They may be original from manufacture. That's a truly wonderful body !! Thanks for showing us.
Some years ago I was a little surprised to learn in a visit to the Cord / Auburn / Deusenberg museum in Indiana that the body work on the ACD cars was all hand-formed over hardwood "bucks". A good friend who restored a '37 Cord coupe thought maybe it had been rolled, there was such imperfection in the top (and plenty of lead). It hadn't been rolled - it was "born" that way !
The use of lead to fill sheet metal imperfections became practically non-existent in body shop work when plastic resin fillers (Bondo) became common in the early 1960s. Lead fill was commonly used in production until fairly recently.
That body looks a little Auburn boat tail inspired or is it the other way around.
No Rich, the lead is ok, they made a lot of little repairs in brass. There was a hole filled on the too of the cowl that they got so hot it sucked the metal down a half inch, they covered th a with a bunch of bondo. I'm pretty sure this predates the Auburn, but there was a very similar Stutz on chasing classic cars.
Are you going to coat it with something to prevent rust?
They offer rust colour sticker in a variety of colours.
The irony of wrapping a car in rust colour vinyl to protect it from rust. I want to coat my car in this when i get the money.
Ow ! Andy, couldn't see those crimes in the pictures. I reckon you'll set them right. The later classics had to get their ideas somewhere !! That is a really elegant body !!
