Yes see that often, unfortunately, with the timer mounted 180 deg's, we have the problem on RHD T's of the carbon dust tracking spark to the rivet and burning the ring out, I still run them on 2 of my T's and am very mindful of de-dusting them every service.

Seen it too Toon!
I just clean it up with a little light sanding.
Seems to not hurt anything. Oil is the worst enemy, it's own carbon dust comes in second.
I clean mine out once maybe twice a year and it's good to go. Probly a good idea for ALL timers, I have a hunch like old push lawnmowers, this little hidden item is often neglected, until it screws up!...usually 50 miles from home too! :-)
