I changed my oil in the touring car and found that the magnet in my magnetic oil plug had turned into a soft goo. It must not have been a ceramic magnet. Anyone else had this happen???

The whole magnet? I have a magnet in my transmission screen and whenever I get to it the thing is covered in magnetic grey slime though the magnet itself is as good as it's ever been.

The whole magnet. It must have been some type of plasticized, magnetized composite.

MMO in the fuel along with wood bands and red oxide under lacquer might have averted this disasters.

Tom, i had one of those in my T, and had the same results. When i changed the oil, i ran a rag over the magnet to see if there was any metal present, and the whole thing disintegrated. Junk!

Look for Samarium Cobalt magnets on Ebay...they are the only ones that will stand up to high temps. Pick a size that can be set in a drilled hole in your drain plug. It'll stay there without any cement, glue, etc.
