I saw this on remote access color camcorder on TV the other day and immediately thought it would be the perfect tool for us to inspect the interior of our engines and transmission to locate suspicious noises, as well as, to help us with the bane of us all...locating small items dropped into the oil pan beneath the transmission, and, in my opinion, at $39.99, is very affordable. It has 4’ or optional 6’ bendable lighted cable extensions to get as far back as you need with accessories, such as a hook for the end of the extension. Also good for drains and looking behind walls. Jim thanks for the post. I bought one from harbor freight but the camera head is to wide to get it in some places. This looks like it may be smaller. I wonder if it’s small enough to inspect the rear axle pumpkin to seethe thrust washers?

John, I would guess yes. it look like the end is only slightly bigger than the diameter of the cable. I’m going to order one. At that price, you can't hardly go wrong. JimPatrick

I got a cheep boroscope ($10) that fits on my cell phone.
It has LEDs and works great for seeing in obscure places.

I like how it has a miniature magnet and a claw attachment so that you can grab and retrieve what you see in one step. :-)

Jim,

When you do the colonoscopy on Michael, see if you can find the lost miners.

I’m more interested in seeing if my thrust washers are Babbitt or bronze and my Gastroenterologist refuses to dip the scope in 400w first ! :-)

Jim, I ordered one too... Hopefully it does the job, if not, "everyone blaming you!" Just kidding! That line was Alan Arkin's spoken in reference to starting WWIII in the 1966 film "the Russians are coming....." I guess that shows I qualify for membership in the "Old Farts" club... really funny movie nonetheless :-)

I hope the tip is small enough to fit in all the orifices of the T we need to access, such as the spark plug hole and the pumpkin hole. It will also be handy to view the condition of the interior of the gas tank. Jim Patrick

I have a cheap one I bought on amazon, about $10, that attaches to my phone. I have used it a number of times. Works good, it does have a short focal length.

I received my Lizard cam today and am very pleased with it. I am unable to post videos or photos as my camera settings will not go low enough to post pictures.

It takes (4) AA batteries. It is a handheld unit with one button controls. Press the button and it turns on and press it again and it turns off. The monitor is about 1.5” x 2” and has a very clear color picture. The bendable cable is 4’ long and is rigid enough to hold the bend you set it at as you push the brightly lighted camera end through the small confined space you are exploring. The best thing to me is that the camera end is only 5/16” in diameter without an attachment and 7/16” in diameter with an attachment, which means it is small enough to fit into just about any orifice you want to explore including inside the spark plug hole to see inside the cylinder bores, the differential hole to see inside the pumpkin, or the drain hole of the oil pan. There are three attachments that screw onto the threaded end of the camera so that they won’t come off and become part of the problem. 1. A very strong magnet, 2. a hook, and 3. a 45 degree mirror to see around corners.

A fantastic deal, in my book and something that will be very useful around the house and in the shop. I highly recommend it. Jim Patrick

PS. Since ordering my Lizard Cam, I have seen them for sale at Walmart on “As Seen on TV” shelves at the checkout stands.

Not interested in colons: semi; or otherwise.

My $10 endoscope saved me a bunch of time when I did the rear brakes on my modern car.
It has disks with and old fashion drums for the e-brake.
The disks would not come off because of a lip on the drum part and I couldn’t find the adjustment star wheel to back the e-brake off.
After about a half hour of messing around without success I remembered the cheep endoscope and it took me all of 3 minutes to find the star and get the first drum off.
The second one took less time.
OH The joy of having the correct tool.

the pic is ok with this 1,not hd quality.Just got it today. My other 1 has a wire loose in the usb hookup and I need to fix it.
No hooks or anything with this outfit. But for less than 9 bucks?
Anyhoo, the driver disc, is all in Chinese. Unless you can read Chinese, chunk it and download the Manycams software free download and it will work with the camera.
I think it works with some kinda of a robot phone, android or something, anyhow,it has a big adaptor so it can work with a laptop or desktop.
Others may know other ways to make it work and I would like to know how to get a full screen pic on my laptop with it as that is what I use the cam with. I picked up a 65 dollar laptop a couple weeks ago to carry in the pickup or use in the shop and the cam works on it fine after I got the manycams software.

One thing that is crucial, that the Lizard Cam has, is a cable that is rigid enough to hold its' shape as you push it through to the destination location. A cable that is too flexible will be like trying to push a piece of rope. It won't hold its' shape and will simply coil up as you try to push it. The only way you can use a flexible cable is to lower it down onto a space which sorely limits its' versatility. Jim Patrick

Jim, you don't need low camera settings. In fact it's best not to use them if you have them. Put the full resolution photo on your computer, make a copy, and resize the copy for the forum.

Thank you Steve. Craig wanted a photo of the monitor to see the quality of the monitor picture. In order to post a photo of the monitor taking a photo of my Model T, I would have to take a picture of the Model T on the monitor. I would then have to copy the picture to my computer, then take a screen shot of the picture on the screen to post on the forum. Taking into consideration that with each photo of a photo that is taken, degradation of the quality occurs, so I don’t think I could post a realistic photo of the actual quality of the monitor and were I to post a degraded photo showing a grainy or blurry picture, while the monitor is crystal clear, it would defeat the purpose of posting the photo in the first place and possibly discourage others from purchasing one of these cams, based on the degraded picture I posted. Since other posters also received a Lizard Cam, I was hoping one of them would post a photo of the monitor directly from their camera to the forum. Jim Patrick
