The hills around here are steep and my 1923 Fordor doesn't care for them. I'm tired of having to top off the tank whenever I head to town. If you did install one how did you wire it? Did you use a regulator or operate without one. I bought the 6V pump from Mac's.
Cutis, I believe there might be more to the problem. I have to wonder if maybe there is a blockage somewhere. Your fuel would need to be less than a couple of gallons for a hill to be steep enough to cause the fuel to not make it to the fuel outlet and if this is the case a fuel still would not cure the issue. I would start by checking the flow rate at the carburetor and work backwards from there. I had a 23 TT that would starve for fuel and it turned out to be rust in the tank.
Curtis,
I have the same problem here in Tennessee. Use a Mr Gasket fuel regulator after the fuel pump and set to 1.5 pounds. They sell them at O'Reilly's etc. Also please install a Standard brand part number FV-7 inertia switch in case of an accident to kill the fuel pump. I mounted this switch under the dash. Wire it in with the BAT feed out on the switch with a 15 amp fuse. Those hills don't stand a chance now.
All the Best,
Hank in Tin-A-See
I think Will is on to something. The gravity system works perfectly (couple of gallons in the tank) so if you are having trouble climbing hills it would be better to fix what's wrong as opposed to putting a band aid on it.
Adding extraneous stuff usually leads to more problems...
Fuel pumps can fail. Gravity never has.
