I did all the prep before taking the 19 out of the garage and found my shirt was just soaked with sweat. I pulled the T out of the garage and the sun blasted me like I was on the beach and I pulled the T back into the garage. I just cant wait for winter to get here so I can play. You guys up north get cabin fever in the winter but down here we get the same thing just in reverse! Maybe this afternoon after the sun goes down some I might be able to get a short ride in. Right now the weather channel says it 85 but the real feel is 95.
Will, I'm like you.......never could stand excessive heat, but my wife loves it!
Never have been able to enjoy myself with sweat pouring in my eyes and skin starting to fry. As for physical work in hot weather, forget it!
Nope, early Spring or Fall for me.
Was stationed there for 2 years. It's all yours.
George...maybe we should swap wives! Mine hates the heat too, I LOVE it!!
I like hot weather and my car loves it but, some days, it's just not worth taking the car out and that's here in Canada. I can just imagine Florida this time of year. Fun is the name of the game. Wait for a better day.
Where I live we routinely see summer temperatures over 100 deg, F. and sometimes 105 or better. 95 is sweater weather.
P.S. Your humidity at 77% is acknowledged. Ours right now is 26%.
The humidity can be your friend or enemy, Last winter the temp dipped all the way down to 55F but the humidity was around 80%. I just about froze.
Many years ago, I attended a convention in Orlando in August. Whenever I walked out of the air conditioned hotel, my glasses fogged over. A native said to me, "Most parts of the country measure humidity in percent. In Florida, we measure it in gallons per acre."
Oh yeah. We get that glasses fogging over thing pretty regular around here. I've gotten out of the car at 5:45 in the morning to pump gas and can't see to enter my zip code on the pump, due them fogging over from being cold from the A/C and it being humid outside.
Well knowing where I'm going to end up I don't think any heat in any state in the good old USA will bother me!
High humidity. It’s the air you can wear!
It still humid and was 89 in ringgold ga today. Hope to get a good weekend to change front and rear fenders on my 26 rpu.ready for cool fall weather.
Tim Wrenn, You better hope your wife doesn't see your post where you suggest swapping her.
i just look at my T and I’m soaked. At least we won’t be shoveling snow in a few months, that’s when I’m going to enjoy getting the T on the road, hopefully.
Jim in Naples
This weekend was terrible. Even for up here I think. Kicked me right square in the... brain never mind
I too wait for cooler weather like today and need some 20 below or so to cool me proper. Not Celcius neither. :-)
I worked on the wife's car today. I used the 40 Chev truck to take the brake rotors to the shop to get turned as it was the only transportation other than the T I had. It wasn't to bad until I had to stop for a stop light, Then I baked inside the cab.It was 92 with 60% humidity. Hopefully in another month or so things will start to cool down a little.
They say if you live in the South, you have four seasons. Early Summer, Summer, Late Summer, and Christmas. Hopefully, we have made the transition to Late Summer. Where I'm at, I've only seen one morning low below 70*F so far, and that was maybe three weeks ago when we had a cold front come through. Our highs are still in the 90's for this week. I guess I should count myself lucky, as I don't remember any days that got over 100*F this year, at least the actual temperature (The "Feels like" or "Real Feel" is another story). So I guess you could say we had a mild Summer. It would sure be nice to leave the house in the morning and find it is cooler outside than inside at 5:30 or 6:00.
Same here, Hal. Walked out of the house at 6:30--78 degrees and 90% humidity. The human body cools itself through perspiration and evaporation; around here all you get is the first part.
A group of us are going 3hrs north of me this weekend to drive fire lanes and back roads for the day. A mixed bag of 29 chev, Durant, two late 20's Dodge's and my 26 RPU. Camping out and high's mid 50's and lows in the 40's. Great camping and driving weather. Yesterday it was 88 and 72% humidty.
Starting at 9:00am I spent the most of the day today in a make shift garage in a storage place working on a black powder rifle. I got done at 1:30, The sun was so hot the air conditioner in the car could not keep up. By the time I got home I thought I was going to pass out. 1/2 a gallon of cold water and my fan at high speed I got feeling better. On the plus side of it I got the rifle done and maybe I'll take it out for a test shoot tomorrow morning.
Will,
You are supposed to spend summer in New England and winter in Florida.
Often times, Hershey is our first taste of cool weather. Unfortunately, we can't make it this year.
Will, post some pics of your black powder friend if you would like to. A buddy of my brother's brought a 58 cal Zuave smoothbore once.
He took aim, took aim, took aim... POW! Broke a hapless black bird into 3 pieces. Strangest thing I ever saw.
Dallas, that sounds really cool! Umm, pics or it didn't happen... ;-) That would be old car related...
Shoot, our temp was around 90 and the dew-point was 71 or 72 on Friday and Saturday. You southern folk are tough!
We cooled down finally, the gulls are moving south east by the thousands, the geese are moving (they'll travel way late into the night) and the coots are on the lake. Fall is here. Ahhh.
It might freeze here in a couple days. I'm so blame happy. :-)
I care for (3) 90 year old water filled engines at this moment so I have to keep watch. 2 T's and a "baby" Twin City twin cam.
Oh oh. Maybe 4 engines. Forgot about Lucky the TT! Gotta check.
Will,
If it's too hot down there, come on up to Alberta and cool off. The temperature is at the freezing mark here this morning with snow in the forecast for the weekend. We postponed our Model T Fall Colour's Tour for a week hoping it will warm up a bit next week. Last week there were 4 inches of snow on the ground where we planned to host our tour's BBQ.
Being a south Texas kid, raised in and around cotton farms, I learned how to handle and work in the heat.
I also learned that, once you're in a moving vehicle with the windows down, it's not bad at all.
Then I spend a couple years at Grand Forks, ND with the Air Force and learned to detest the bitter cold.
At least with the heat, you can still do things. In the severe cold, you're very limited.
