Has anyone converted their gas lights to electric. The kit that Langs and Snyder's list are out and have a long waiting list. Trying to find out is there another alternative that I can do myself. Thanks for any input. Sam

Sam, I electrified my gas headlights. I purchased what I needed from Chaffin's Garage. Call them. Dave is most helpful.

Restoration Supply has kits.

You are right Steve. I didn't think about restoration supply. I believe you can get 6 volt kits from them. What I purchased from Chaffin's is 12 volt but that was what I wanted.

Sam-

Is this for your 1914? If it is the original non-generator block and you intend to run the lights off of a battery, I would suggest using LED bulbs, mounted where the burner goes. The LED bulbs draw almost nothing so you could drive all night long. Do you still have the original mangin mirrors? Just fabricate a socket, drill a hole somewhere for a switch, wire it up and you are good to go.

Of course if you use your acetylene headlamps as they were intended, the cool factor goes up exponentially...

Steve, restoration supply only has the kit for later T lights not for brass as shown by Keith's picture. I found the halogen bulbs and sockets on ebay and I am going to try to do a set up similar to Keith's.
Thank all of you for the help, RE I tried chaffins didnt get a response. Thanks again. Sam

Mine are not Halogen bulbs. They are Acetylene.
Powered with a Prest-O-Lite tank.

Why not try using your acetylene generator? I just did mine, and it's a kick!

Larry-

My original acetylene generator has some cracks in the brass and I was not able to get it to operate. Plus after each use, it is important to clean out the messy residue. With my Prest-O-Lite, all I have to do is turn off the valve!

If I were going to convert to electric lights I would only use LED especially on a non generator car, check out Brightlights.com

LED's are being discussed on another thread right now and there seems to be a question whether you can get enough light from the LED's to actually drive with them. I never tried it so I don't know.

I do know I get adequate light to drive with the gas lights running them from a Prest-O-Lite tank.

RE I just got in contact with Dave at Chaffin's, you are correct he was very helpful and I ordered the candle stick halogen kit for my 14 lights. Thanks for the info and again thanks MTFCA... Sam

I have these in my 1915 and 1919:

1156 LED Bulb w/ Stock Cover - 36 SMD LED Tower - BA15S Base

I got the "warm white" which looks more like incandescent light. Their "cool white" is brighter, but gives more of a "blue-LED light" look that just doesn't have the right look.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/search/led-products/1156-ww3w-g+warm+white/

They are nice and bright and if I had to, I could drive all night long running these lights off my 12v battery.

Sam, If you modify a modern single contact socket, solder a 1/8" female pipe fitting onto the bottom end of it, you can screw it right on to the headlamp burner base. Just make sure the LED envelope portion is centered in the bucket. Then you can still adjust the focus but moving the burner base back and forth. Here is one I did that has a high intensity incandescent bulb in it.
