I came across one of these recently and had not previously seen one. I could see where it fit on a T engine, and it is marked with Ford script, but it is unlike the pieces I'm familiar with. Does anyone know when it was made? Was it later replaced by the one we're all familiar with? Thanks for any info.
I think 1921 was the last year for that part then they just used the familiar block off plates. I've got one on my 21 but there was a generator there when I bought it. I took the motor apart and the flywheel had no ring gear or a machined place for one so I put that part on instead since it was unusual. Motor wasn't in a car when I bought it, 21 cast date but no serial number so I figure it's a replacement block for a pre-starter era motor.
1919-21 but will fit any engine with place for generator, Bob
You will need an earlier timing gear cover too with this part.
Found about that soon enough.
These are nice turning a later block to an early one
Bekieve these was a cheap solution while ford changed over to generator block and still had a stockpile non gen timining gear covers
Never thought they where rare
I've seen these used as a patch on an early block that had part of the cam gear area broken off. Basically they cut the old cam gear area straight, then welded the block off plate in as a patch. Once everything is fit together it can all be bolted in place to hold it in position for welding. It's a great way to save an early block.
