Greetings Gentleman! One of my winter T projects is to rebuild the Hogshead and install new band material. I've decided to go with Kevlar. My question is, do the ends really need to be sealed, dipped, glued etc.etc.? As far as I know most vendors sell the lengths "unsealed" while there is a private supplier that sells them "sealed". If they should/need to be sealed, can I do it myself? If so, what method or product should I use? Many thanks in advance.
The vendor Kevlars I've bought over the last several years have all been sealed.
Buy from Lang's with confidence that they sell a product which is cut and finished for immediate installation, with no extra fooling around.
I cannot speak for other suppliers or their vendors, some of which are likely to be ready for installation and perhaps some that are not.
For disclosure, I do not supply this product and have no financial interest in it, but am simply a happy, multiple purchaser of this product from Lang's

Thanks for the help gentleman. I wanted to do this once and do it right.
I used to seal my Kevlar bands by dipping the ends into about 1/4th inch of Rustoleum paint.
The directions said not to do that, but it worked well for rope ends when I was in the navy.
I have been using the same set of Kevlar bands for 18 years now and may tighten them half a turn every year or two.
Put Krazy glue on the ends.
I used RedKote, which is used to seal electrical wiring in motors. It seems to be impervious to oil when set. I suspended the ends about a quarter inch in the stuff and left them for a half to an hour. The RedKote wicked up into the Kevlar a little ways. I cured the band's for a couple of days in my furnace room. I will unravel before those bands will, believe me! Cheers, Bill
I’d be surprised (and disappointed in the quality) if any of the major vendors are still selling Kevlar bands that aren’t already sealed on the ends.
If you buy the substandard quality Kevlar the ends are not sealed. My bro installed a set in his '15 t and in very short time the inner oil tube filled with fiber and clogged the tube. The good news is he had not driven the car yet just ran it in the shop.
He had to pull the motor and disassemble and remove all the stringy stuff from the transmission innards, the oil tube and the crankcase.
If you buy the good stuff from Bob's where I got my Kevlar bands or Langs the ends will be sealed. Mine were sealed with what appeared to be thick yellow paint.
just sayin'

Isn't the ends seald by melting the material durring the cutting process ?
Willie
melting point of Kevlar is over 900F, and at that point the material degrades as fast as it melts.
The Kevlar bands from Bobs and Langs are sealed with craze glue and then compressed. They seem to stay together well.
