Vincent,

Send me a picture of the affected area by a PM please.

I should have a solution.

All the Best,

If the tear is not too large and pulled open you can make a very nice repair by using some of your Ultra Black gasket adhesive sealer from Permatex.

You might apply a piece of adhesive tape to hold things In place while the Ultra Black sets up. Several guys locally have used this and are very pleased with the results. It cures to a flexible rubber material with a strong bond.

Vincent, I took a piece of plywood and put a layer of plastic on it and then propped it up under the tear with a board. Then I put windshield uerathane on the top side and a piece of the same top material, then another layer of plastic and another piece of plywood on with weight on top of that and let it cure. The plastic is for incase the uerathane pushes out. It has stayed on for about 15 years now. My tear was about 12 inches long.

I did the same thing to my top with my garage door. Since then have adjusted the automatic door opener open position.

I used this tape to fix the rip. It is black so it blends in with the top material. I use this tape in other places to eliminate rub spots in my upholstery. It is tough and has low friction. Sticks well and lasts well. One trick is to round the corners with a pair of scissors so the corners don't peel up.
