Best I can say is it should be called "Carmine Red"...call PPG or DuPont and talk to them about that.

I thought originally they were all midnight blue.

That looks like the color I am finding as I strip paint off my 1926 Fordor. It was painted black (by an amateur) when I got it but interior upholstery is gray with red stripes. According to my research this car would have been painted “Royal Maroon” (whatever that is) originally. I know lots can happen in 92 years, but has anyone encountered a 26 Fordor in this color. Fenders, skirts, and running boards are black and apparently always were. THANKS

Mario, you might look into this color. Similar to an '09 red we just painted my speedster with. Good luck.

True, but if you want the "real McCoy" red, from what I've learned, it was called Carmine Red. Long ago I communicated with a gal from PPG who concurred. She was familiar with the color. Pete, my former '12 Comm. Roadster P/U was painted that color, even though he too should've probably been midnight blue. But we all know red gets the attention! If I'm not mistaken the museum has one or maybe two '09s that are that color. Just sayin'. Not an expert by any means.

Same question was posted Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018. Perhaps you'll find more info there. Sorry, I don't know how to post a link.

Note to Steve Jelf, as often as this question comes up, perhaps advice on it cod be inuded in the "Dauntless Geezer" ?

For what it's worth, there's a lot of inaccurate information being thrown around here. The car pictured is a Torpedo, not an Open Runabout. Sibling cars, but not the same.

Secondly, I've never seen anything that says red is the official color for Open Runabouts. In fact, McCalley's book states up front in the 1911 section about Colors that "a few" red Open Runabouts were produced.

If you check the sampling of invoices in the back, almost all of the 1911 cars are listed as blue with a few exceptions. That list is partial, but it doesn't show any red Torpedos and most of the Open Runabouts are blue. One of those exceptions is in April where you'll find noted the examples of red Open Runabouts and another one in September noted as going to a "FD". There was a factory drawing to modify an Open Runabout into a fire chief's car and my guess is that's the red ones listed in the invoices as they don't list a windshield manufacturer. Below is a photo of one such car from Clymer's "Wonderful Model T" book.
