Well you all knew the day was coming for new forum software and that time has arrived.
phpBB forum software is what we will be using, the latest version 3.2.5
We are trying to keep it as simple and practical as possible.
We are aiming to allow access on Monday January 7, 2019.
Everyone will need to register as a new user so we can start with a clean database of users.
You should be able to register with the same user name you had before but this is not guaranteed.
I use ChrisB for my user name.
User names like ChrisBrancaccioatattdotnet just makes your user name too long.
You will be REQUIRED to register with a FIRST & LAST NAME and LOCATION.
Some good points on these postings

Thank you Chris!
Thank you Chris
Will this forum still be up and running for a short while so if we have questions or problems of how to log on the new one we can ask them?
Thanks for all your hard work, Chris! Hope all users are able to work through the transition, as the people on this forum have been invaluable when tinkering on the Model T!
Looking forward to the new interface!
Excited to see this!! I haven't been here too long but to be honest the boards felt like the 90s. Thanks for moving MTFCA into the future!!
Will these still be available?

Thanks for all your hard work, Chris.
Thank You Chris. I know it's been a struggle but I think the results will be highly enjoyed.
Thanks Chris!
Will there be a field that could be something like, "Forum member since…"
It's kind of a badge on honor...
: ^ )
Thank you Chris and MTFCA.
I know some have been around longer but I have been able to find old posts from 2007 when I was new here. Lets hope we all make it into the new 2019 forum.
One nice thing is that a build thread, like mine, can exist over an unlimited number of years.
Thanks for doing all this Chris. I have firsthand knowledge of how much tedious, unforgiving work this is.
Do I wait until the 7th to re-register?
If any of you have any trouble registering or navigating the new terrain, feel free to contact me at allenchemistryATgmailDOTcom. I'll be happy to help you navigate it or better yet, call me at 2EIGHT1-SEVEN87-EIGHT418.
It's not hard to register on a phpBB forum or to use it.
Don - HA! Easy for YOU to say!
You're probably like many young guys that just eat, sleep, and breathe "computer", but for an old guy like me, who is just barely (and I mean "BARELY") computer literate,....well,.....thanks for your post and your kind offer, and I just may be calling you,......harold
Steve, yes all the old topics will be available into the foreseeable future.
Keith T, I like the idea of Forum Member Since.
It would be my pleasure Harold. As kind and generous as the forum members here have been to me, I feel the need to return the favor.
I made it through high school, then a 4 year tour in the military before I ever touched a computer. That was in my first year of college in 1992....and they were pretty primitive.
I learned computers on DOS and then taught myself HTML. It's enough knowledge to get myself into trouble and create some real messes if I try to get too fancy, but I am the go-to guy for my 80 year old dad and his pals if they need simple help on how to navigate on the web or do simple things on the computer.
What always make me snicker is that my brother has an actual degree in computer programming but my dad refuses to ask him for advice because he'll make things WAY too complicated, whereas I stick to only explaining the basic things that need to be explained and communicate in non-computer jargon.
The new site accepted my registration just now.
I also created a new thread there and post an 804K picture, no resizing required. I don't know what the site picture size limit is.
Don - At age 77, I'm right there with you 80 year old Dad! And I can absolutely "relate" when you say there are those that "KNOW", but can't (or don't) really teach! Thanx Don,...harold
Harold, 1941 was a really good year, even if I do say so myself.
Mark, where did you find it?
Chris,
Thank you for all your hard work and making the forum available to us.
Please let us know when and where to go to register in the future when it is time.
Respectfully submitted,
Hap l9l5 cut off
Chris chose me as one of the Beta testers and sent me a secret link.
Yea Mark you must be a computer wiz, how did you find it?
Mark must be the teachers pet!
Chris, will it work down under?
Allan from there.
Allan, only if you turn the PC up side down.
So, are step by step instructions going to be given out? I tried to re-register. Program will not let me use the same username or password that I have been using for years. Says account already exists.
Oh Kim are you special too
Thank you Chris,
Kim, try just logging in with your legacy username and password, maybe you're already in the system.
I just printed out my profile in case I no longer have access to all the information listed in it. Saving the profile photo also.
We still need to keep photo file sizes small for the benefit of those on dial-up. Hopefully, the new software will do this automatically.
I imagine the new forum will have a new "Instructions for forum use" and a new "Forum rules" category to select from.
Great idea to print out your profile info from this site, Vern!
Cool. It will be nice to be able to edit posts without having to enter the nuclear launch codes every time.
Sorry guys, just about 20 users on testing at the moment, it's all I can handle.
You are going to have to register on the new site, I will post the link on Monday.
This site will remain indefinitely at this point.
I don't think step by step instructions will be required based on feedback so far.
Thank you Chris B! I will try to be as supportive as I can be. I look forward to seeing the new site remain the best forum on the web!
Most of the phpBB boards out there are light as a feather and lightning fast!
I took screenshots of my log-in info here and saved 'em.
I'd imagine the SSL will be updated at the same time yet I tried Don's 54 Ford site and my antique Linux O.S. worked perfect.
Thanks Chris. :-)
I guess that I am "special" cause I retired because I was being required to instruct from a tablet vs hard copy of a lessonplan. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
Kim, You will survive like me you old dog!
Thanks Chris!!!
Hank
I appreciate your hard work, but I will reserve my thanks until Monday when I find out for myself how it works! I will be 83 this year, so maybe I am an "Old Dog"? Hopefully, I can still learn new tricks!
Norm
The good news is that you won't have to resize pictures. It's automatic.
Thank you Chris!
The only thing I would like to add, is to have a section dedicated to just pictures. I know that Jay lost a great many photos that he posted over on the International site when it was closed down.
I will be looking forward to easier photo postings. Often it takes two times thru my resizing program just to post a couple.
That is good news Steve. It's long over due. Too bad about the "time in grade thing though".
Look how simple this one is compared to more modern ones.
Modern ones are an abomination of slush that takes forever to load, if it loads at all.
I hope the new one is as simple.
I'd suggest that if someone appears to be missing from the new board, email them and ask if they need help with registering or whatever. Don't let them slip away. Many have left for whatever reason ... their loss, but there's no need to lose people just because they can't register or they need a bit of friendly prodding.
Garnet
I'm really looking forward to this. Chris, when on Monday will it open to the rest of us?
Works fine. Hardest part is remembering a new password. Password on my first phone was 1111
Dick, it seems to be working OK, so he's moving the debut up for a Sunday opening. I don't know what time.
As long as Chris is able to keep it to 4 topics then I see it as a win-win situation. If it expands to 9 topics like Royce's site or even more than that, then you will lose me.
Thank you Chris.
phpBB is a very widely used Forum software and if you are on other forums you should immidiately if not feel at home, then at least know your way.
I think it is probably the best alternative there are out there and it is supported software (Opensource I believe).
Thank you Chris! Look forward to enter the 21st century!
Thanks for all your hard work Chris. I hope I’m able to log on this afternoon. A little apprehensive. Will our Forum pictures automatically transition to the 2019 Forum?
Just registered on the new forum.
Extremely painless! I may even feel better
Than before I registered!:-)
