Mozzone, Three Generations

Here's the story in a nutshell...

My father, Bruno Mozzone acquired his 1925 Model T Ford Roadster in 1968. The story goes that it had been restored by a man in Cumberland, Rhode Island who claimed it had been the 2nd place Model T Roadster at Hershey, PA in 1962 after he had driven it to the show. He claimed that the winner had been trailered and wrapped in plastic.... We have no documentation, but it's a nice story everyone in the family repeats at any opportunity....

By 1969, Bruno was letting me take the Model T to special events, like the 1969 Taunton High School Thanksgiving Day Football Classic! Here's a photo of me driving the car on that occasion.

Bruno was a very successful home builder at that time, and by 1970 he acquired his 1931 Ford Model A Delux Roadster, but 'Lizzie' was always the queen of the barn. Here's a photo of Bruno on a rare Sunday when he wasn't working with both vehicles out on the front lawn for a wash..

By 1981, Bruno had put Lizzie up in the barn, finding the Model A faster and more compatable with modern traffic. That's where she sat until Fathers Day, 2000. Bruno and I were spending that day together.

Over the years his health and fortunes have failed... The Model A was sold off to help pay household expenses, and when he said, "Son, I don't want you to inherit the Model T...", I understood... But Bruno added, "No, you don't understand... I'm going to give the car to you NOW!"....

WOW!

Lizzie only needed a good cleaning up after 20 years in the barn, and a small bit of work by my son Matthew and I to make her roadworthy.... Of course, the very first trip for Lizzie, was to visit and pick up Bruno and take him for a ride.... Here's a photo of three generations of Lizzie Lovers!

Bruno needs a walker now, and when I offered him a ride, Mom said, "Bruno! You can't climb up into that car!", to which he replied, throwing his walker asside, "Oh No? You just watch me!" He was aboard, and we were off for a Sunday Drive!

Of course it was a great day for posing for photos, and Bruno insisted on one with his grandchildren, Emily Mozzone, and Matt Mozzone who someday will share a similar moment with their 'Old Man'... me....
