Re: Kingston L4 Question
The reason you had to work the choke a lot is because of the missing flapper. That flapper is a weighted air valve. When idling the flapper is closed it allows less air to flow and more gasoline to be picked up. As the engine speed increases the airflow causes the flapper to rise up and allow more a...

It’s supposed to be a modern design. I read a story about it one time saying that one of the judges or commissioners had a friend in the construction business and whatever went on resulted in the new courthouse. Tyler, Texas 1916 old photo
I saw this old picture today at the rehab where my grandma is at in Tyler. It was too long to take a picture of all of it with my phone but this is most of it. It looks like a 1913 touring sandwiched between 2 1914’s. They’ve got the horses and cars parked in separate locations. That is the old Smit...

I heated the center part of mine red hot with an acetylene torch then cooled it with water to shrink the metal. I did this a few times until I shrank it enough I had to tap it on with a hammer.

3/4” ID 1” OD. The felt is still in this one.
Allan, that’s right about the 2 screw coming first I believe because it has the clamp screw for the hot air pipe like the 3 screw but it was later omitted.

There is also a fitting that is tapered and seals with the carburetor body by tightening the nut (part #4572) and the male threaded portion extends through the nut and the inlet elbow threads onto it. You have to assemble the taper fitting-nut-elbow prior to installing it on the carburetor body. Her...

The Holley G you have pictured with the ring around the air horn is a bit shorter. The other brass and cast iron G’s are the same length. These are all the Holleys from 1912-1919.
The choke arms are all the same length.

Re: DIY Nickel plating
Kevin, I used 6. With 12 volts it bubbles a lot and it comes out as you said burnt or brown colored. When you sand the brown it comes out shiny but some comes off flaky, then I replated it. I think the voltage needed depends on the part size and volume of solution. I started it sometimes with 12 the...

Thanks. I started with an AC adapter from a Nintendo that I modified. It took 24 hrs to make the solution but then I tried the battery charger. It plates pretty fast. Quicker than I had expected.

DIY Nickel plating
I’ve been thinking about buying one of those Caswell kits to brass plate some parts on my 14. I’m building a speedster but I’m using an Overland body, that’s why it’s not a T part, but it could have been. It’s nickel era but I was just going to paint the column since it was solid rust but I thought ...

Re: Mounting the drive gear on my wheel hub.
You will need to get spacers to use with the screws and center it up. The hole in the 11077 gear is larger than the hub. The gear for use with the machined hub is smaller and screws to the hub instead of the spokes.

Ok thanks. It’s a lamp for smaller companies that didn’t get their names stamped in the chimneys or aftermarket then I suppose. I went to that same swap meet this weekend and didn’t see that lamp. It’s been there several times so maybe he sold it or didn’t come. I saw 2 Model T parts this time, a 21...

Re: What have you done to your model T in May?
Working on my speedster. I was just about to drill 3 holes for the 22-25 steering column bracket I had clamped to the dash for the T steering column that I already had modified to fit when I thought, I wonder if I could make the Overland column work? So I tried it, then I took it apart, shortened an...

Re: What have you done to your model T in April?
I went to the car show at the Brownsboro high school. I started it countless times to show people it’s not difficult to start with a hand crank. One woman wanted a video and I told her ok but it’ll probably never start if you do that, but it did. Kids all got to honk the horn and I took a crankshaft...

I think you have an NH float. They are the same size as the L4 float but the hinge is taller from the top of the float to the pivot point. The Briggs float is fitted to an L4, An original L4 float will fit an L2 but it is smaller diameter. An original L2 float and float hinge are available reproduct...

I had a switch like it once before that had a key that looked like my crude drawing. It was a Briggs and Stratton key. I don’t know if it was correct but it worked. I bought the switch and then found the key in a basket of keys at a flea market, then I sold them and and am starting over but before I...

Re: What size is an amp gauge
Thanks for the replies. The switches are the same but the tumblers are different and none of the Gord keys fit so I’ll just remove the rivets and swap everything. I had a T chassis that I used the motor from for another car then I picked up what was left of an Overland touring car for $100, which wa...

I’m building a speedster and have an Overland Model 91 body. I’m going to put the T switch in the switch that fits the body. It’s worth that if you have the inlet elbow. Lang’s has them for $95 but they only had 5 left and the guy that was making them died I believe they said. If you just need it as a backup then you could just swap elbows.

Re: What really made the Model T so Popular?
I think in rural areas the magneto had something to do with it. Where I live there was no electricity until after WW2 so a car with a completely dead battery would leave you stranded. You can simply start the T on mag and go on to town. There wasn’t any phone to call for a boost either. I’m sure bac...

Re: Holley carburetor evolution
There were lots of changes to the G, the spray needles were money saving changes. The top part went from the round knurled knob, to a brass bar, to a steel bar, all 3 drilled and tapped 1/4-32 and pinned, then the last simply swaged on. Usually the bottom of the needle seat can be seen in the inlet,...

They seem to run the same. The G is just an H1 with a simplified float mechanism. I suppose they did save money on the drilling of 6 holes, but the ones without the six holes have a stand pipe about 3/32” soldered to the top of the air bleed/drain in the bottom to compensate for the extra gas that w...

The 1913 Model S, while similar in design, was signific...
