The "dimmer" is actually an inductor placed in series with the headlights.
It acts like an AC resistor to the magneto AC voltage.

Consider having all of the capacitors (condensers) replaced.
Most likely it won't work well (if at all) until that is done.
That is pretty much standard procedure in radio restoration.

Re: Stewart Warner Vehicle Radios
I don't have any first hand experience with this radio.
Based on what I see in the schematic, there is nothing polarity conscious in the power input unless the vibrator is.
Were 1936-37 Fords positive or negative ground?
That would be my first choice for connecting the radio to power.

The next step would be to compare the tube numbers and locations in your radio to the schematics.
I searched 7 volumes of Riders schematics to find these.

McLarn Wire Wheel Tire Slippage - In Detail
It took awhile but I finally finished the analysis of my tire slippage problem.
I have put together my findings in the attached document.
I believe there are two issues in play.
One with the wheels.
One with the particular tires that I had.
let me know what you think.

Re: Tube valve stem cut off
Most likely, the tire and tube rotated on the rim.
What kind of tire was it?
What kind of rim was it.
There are certain combinations of tires and rims that are prone to tire slippage.
I have had this problem since 2007.

Re: Magneto battery charger
A Bridge Rectifier will not directly replace the single diode in this type of charger. One leg of the bridge will be a short to ground. In order to use a bridge rectifier, the magneto output must be isolated by a one to one isolation transformer. Then a bridge rectifier will give you full wave outp...

Re: I can’t be the only one...?!
Original Ruckstel 3 to 1 ring gear bolts.
When the last one let go the ring gear simply moved away from the pinion gear.
All that happened is that I had "No Go"
And of course "No Brakes"

Re: Good Idea's Needed!
Belliott3,
I did it in 2006.
I don't recall exactly how I rigged it.
The "X" was centered and the body was level.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

I did it alone.
I used a simple Engine Hoist and straps in an "X".
It was not difficult and I never felt out of control.

Tommy,
What brand of tires and what kind of wheels are you running?
Some combinations of tires and wheels are prone to slippage.

A Most Unusual Coil Box Lid
A friend found this in his Pile-O-Parts.
Apparently the mechanism hooks onto the coil points to prevent them from working.
When locked, the lid is not removable.
