Belliott3,
I did it in 2006.
I don't recall exactly how I rigged it.
The "X" was centered and the body was level.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

I did it alone.
I used a simple Engine Hoist and straps in an "X".
It was not difficult and I never felt out of control.

You would have to fold the windshield as well. Even then, some enclosed trailers may be too short. Does the trailer have a car door/ramp or is it the barn door style. The top will have to be disconnected from the rear sockets as it normally hangs over the back of the rear seat when it is down. It w...

Original Ford HCCTs have 18Z245N180 hand stamped on the side of the base.
18Z245-A, -B, -C, etc. is cast into the various parts of the HCCT (base, spark ring, pulley, etc.) on Ford and some non-Ford units.
It's all explained in the book.

Re: Looking for Ford HCCT Serial Numbers

18Z245 is the tool number listed in Ford documents.
The 18Z245N180 is hand stamped on the base.
The "N180 suffix is not consistent with other cast-in part numbers.
For example, 18Z245 B is cast into the spark ring.
There are no known drawings in the Ford archives for the 18Z245 tool.

Re: Start There - Finish Here

Here is the final outcome.
It still needs a Mag-Ring and a flywheel.
The hand crank was broken so I will make this a motorized unit.

Re: Looking for Ford HCCT Serial Numbers

Andy,

That is an original Ford HCCT.
The Pulley on the back is unique to the Original Ford unit.
Thank you for your response to our request.
It is very helpful.

Michael,

Is that a mark under the band on the coil box?

Looking for Ford HCCT Serial Numbers

As you may know, Ron Patterson and I are writing a book on the Hand Cranked Coil Tester (HCCT). I am researching serial numbers on the Ford HCCT. The Ford HCCT can be identified by the Part/Serial number stamped on the base (see photo below). It may be on the right or left side. We would like to kn...

Re: Looking up members

I agree, being organized by user names is not ideal.
One technique I use is to use the browser page search function (ctrl F) and look for the name I am looking for.
It is cumbersome but effective.

Re: Start There - Finish Here

Thanks for the ata-boys :)

The only parts that were salvageable from the original meters were the cases.
I replaced the movements and coils and calibrated them.
The ammeter had to be wound from scratch.

Now on to restoring the rest of the HCCT.

Re: A new speedometer and/or rev counter?

RPMs could be derived directly from Magneto frequency with a frequency to voltage converter.
No sensors required.

Re: Magneto issue

It may have a short that happens when it it warm.
This would truncate the number of coils and reduce the output.

Re: Magneto issue

Sounds like thermal leakage.
As the engine warms up the insulation starts to breakdown.
If the magneto is original, this is no surprise.

Re: SLOW LEAKS

It may not be a leak at all. I have seen this phenomena before. When a tube inflates there is trapped air between the tube and the tire. Over time this trapped air seeps out and the tube appears to loose air. This effect will dissipate over time and the tubes should old pressure. One technique I us...

I am looking for more information in the Weidenhoff HCCT for my book. I need more detailed photos and a clear description of how it works. I am also looking for any Weidenhoff catalogs or literature that shows the Weidenhoff HCCT. Below is a photo of a Weidenhoff HCCT. Thank you in advance. Be_Zero_...

If the Allen tester in question has a brake drum spark indicator, then assembly is straight forward as Humblej said.
If it has the rotating spark indicator, then contact Ron Patterson for details about those.
