Just FYI : The capacitors sold by Langs and most T suppliers are a custom made capacitor for the Model T coil. They have an even higher dv/dt that the SBE 418 or 225 series capacitors. The current price of the 225P47494YD3 at Mouser is $9.04. The current price of the coil capacitor at Lang's is $...

The "Resistor" that is used on the non-starter Model T is actually an Inductor. It is a coil wound around a laminated core. The inductor acts like a variable resistor that varies with engine RPM (Magneto Frequency). As your key is on the coil box, the inductor would have been mounted on the firewal...

The original paper capacitors have no outer wrapping or insulative covering.
Thus the dielectric strength is only what can be provided by the tar.
The glass acts as an insulation barrier between the capacitor and the high voltage windings.

Photo number nine is actually a Chevrolet dealer.
Montgomery County Motor Company, Rockville, Maryland, circa 1926.
I used this photo under license in the HCCT Handbook.
Notice the long wire cables hanging next to the HCCT that were used to
reach the magneto on a running car to test the output.

It is important to maintain a good ground path between the field coil, the frame, the coil and the meter.
Make sure the field coil to frame attach points are clean bare metal.
This is a Weidenhoff HCCT and it has an unusual spark indicator that relies on properly grounded components.

Sanity Check - Clutch adjustment
My clutch is slipping. I have verified the linkage is properly adjusted. I will need to adjust the three fingers on the clutch drive plate. The question I have is, do I turn the screw clockwise as viewed looking forward from the back of the car, or counterclockwise? I only want to do this once. Tha...

Re: HCCT on Facebook Market Place
Looks like a two meter Allen with a brake drum spark ring.
Crank handle seems to be missing.
Meters appear to be there.
Also, it looks like there is an original flywheel magnet shipping box with magnets..
At 350-500 it is worth getting.

Re: Patent Date of the HCCT
The HCCT as we know it today was originally a Ford "Z" tool . The first Ford HCCT was the 17 Z 803. As near as we can determine it was not produced in any great numbers. We suspect (unconfirmed) that it was redesigned into what we know as a HCCT today - the 18 Z 245. I have been told by people that...

Re: Enclosed Car Trailer Optimal Size
I found that a 16 foot trailer was ideal for my '16 Touring. 8.5 feet wide is a must in my opinion. A 16 foot trailer leaves about four feet for "Misc. Stuff" to make the trip a success. My trailer had 12" of extra height. I could easily drive my touring into the trailer with the top up. A beaver t...

Allen HCCT on eBay
There is an Allen Rotating Spark HCCT on eBay. I have no connection to it. It neeeds restoration. It looks like the parts for the rotating spark indicator are missing. The meter shown is incorrect for a HCCT (as stated by the seller). It is a DC ammeter - the HCCT uses an AC Ammeter. Thst being sai...

Mack,
These "non-polarized" LED assemblies have an internal bridge rectifier inline with the power leads.
Thus, the LEDs will always see the correct polarity.

Re: LED light issues
As stated, the LED bulbs are non-polarized. This means they will work with positive or negative ground. They don't care about polarity by design. I hade an issue of "cross-talk" between my LED brake lights. I solved it by putting a diode in series with each bulb. Don't ask me why - it just worked. ...

Re: Newish kevlar brake band seemed to swell - car stalled
I have had Kevlar swell on me several times.
It was from adjusting them too tight.
It takes patience and several iterations of adjusting to get them setup.
After that they are great.

I have one in my '16 Touring.
I installed a Model T battery carrier and set it at an angle like others have.
I also put one under the front seat, behind the gas tank on a '15 Roadster.

Re: Building a DIY HCCT
Matt,
I see you are using a brake drum for a spark ring.
Allen used a modified brake drum on some of their HCCT's.
They increased the diameter of the inner diameter to avoid the spark
from jumping to the shaft.
Here is the Allen drum.

I have chased the threads with a die before and sometimes it will improve the threads sufficient for a good seal. It does not fully restore threads. "Braze" might not make a strong long lasting thread. "Weld" would be a better choice. The manifold usually needs two things : 1. Thread repair or rest...
