I seem to recall that I read somewhere that after all was said and done the average net profit on each Model T was about $2.00.
That's $30 million dollars over the 18 year run of the Model T.
Pretty big money for that time.

Re: 1919 Magneto only horn/light wiring harness colors?

The "Resistor" that is used on the non-starter Model T is actually an Inductor. It is a coil wound around a laminated core. The inductor acts like a variable resistor that varies with engine RPM (Magneto Frequency). As your key is on the coil box, the inductor would have been mounted on the firewal...

The original paper capacitors have no outer wrapping or insulative covering.
Thus the dielectric strength is only what can be provided by the tar.
The glass acts as an insulation barrier between the capacitor and the high voltage windings.

Does anyone know the radius (or diameter)

If possible I would like to know the dimension from the Ford drawing.
I need to layout the hole pattern for a HCCT spark ring.
Thanks for your help.

Photo number nine is actually a Chevrolet dealer.
Montgomery County Motor Company, Rockville, Maryland, circa 1926.
I used this photo under license in the HCCT Handbook.
Notice the long wire cables hanging next to the HCCT that were used to
reach the magneto on a running car to test the output.

It is important to maintain a good ground path between the field coil, the frame, the coil and the meter.
Make sure the field coil to frame attach points are clean bare metal.
This is a Weidenhoff HCCT and it has an unusual spark indicator that relies on properly grounded components.

I found that a 16 foot trailer was ideal for my '16 Touring. 8.5 feet wide is a must in my opinion. A 16 foot trailer leaves about four feet for "Misc. Stuff" to make the trip a success. My trailer had 12" of extra height. I could easily drive my touring into the trailer with the top up. A beaver t...

Allen HCCT on eBay

There is an Allen Rotating Spark HCCT on eBay. I have no connection to it. It neeeds restoration. It looks like the parts for the rotating spark indicator are missing. The meter shown is incorrect for a HCCT (as stated by the seller). It is a DC ammeter - the HCCT uses an AC Ammeter. Thst being sai...

A common source of HCCT problems is a poor ground circuit. Make sure the following items are connected to ground (the HCCT frame). 1. Mag coil ring to HCCT frame. 2. Re: LED light issues

Mack,

These "non-polarized" LED assemblies have an internal bridge rectifier inline with the power leads.
Thus, the LEDs will always see the correct polarity.

Re: LED light issues

As stated, the LED bulbs are non-polarized. This means they will work with positive or negative ground. They don't care about polarity by design. I hade an issue of "cross-talk" between my LED brake lights. I solved it by putting a diode in series with each bulb. Don't ask me why - it just worked. ...

Re: Newish kevlar brake band seemed to swell - car stalled

I have had Kevlar swell on me several times.
It was from adjusting them too tight.
It takes patience and several iterations of adjusting to get them setup.
After that they are great.

I have one in my '16 Touring.
I installed a Model T battery carrier and set it at an angle like others have.

I also put one under the front seat, behind the gas tank on a '15 Roadster.

Re: Building a DIY HCCT

Matt,
I see you are using a brake drum for a spark ring.
Allen used a modified brake drum on some of their HCCT's.
They increased the diameter of the inner diameter to avoid the spark
from jumping to the shaft.
Here is the Allen drum.

Re: manifold thread repair

I have chased the threads with a die before and sometimes it will improve the threads sufficient for a good seal. It does not fully restore threads. "Braze" might not make a strong long lasting thread. "Weld" would be a better choice. The manifold usually needs two things : 1. Thread repair or rest...

In the 10+ years I have been refurbishing HCCT meters I have accumulated a lot of parts. One version of the Allen HCCT has a small Ammeter and Voltmeter. They are normally all steel (see last photo).
