Re: Reading the tea leaves
If after running the car down the road for an hour or so, look at the plugs. If the front pair are still carbon up (darker in color) than the rear pair. Tighten up the rear manifold clamps. The rear has an air leak causing you to set the carb richer which makes the front pair carbon up.

Head gaskets are available, I just got a few from Lang’s. I have extra pushrods that are correct for Fronty. High compression pistons are a plus, increasing the compression ratio is a benefit. Not as costly as one would think. But when you are trying to pinch another inch of performance, what’s a few more bucks. Closing up the ratio between low and high keeps the engine in its power band on the shift to high. Two parts are involved, a spacer and a driven gear. I had extra sets made. If in...

I will answer a couple of question as the OP doesn’t have the answers.
Oil filter. In a box, on a cart in my shop.
Check valve. Yes spring loaded
It will open at a very very low crack pressure
It will flow more oil than the pump will need to supply mains and rods. Not my first rodeo here guys.

The process was/is intended for setting valves on a worn out valve train only. You will not get any benefit by doing so. In fact it will hurt performance in your case. Don’t do it. You have low use on the cam and lifters. Set valve lash a .010” on both intake/exhaust per the cam manufactures recomme...
