Re: Need advice on changing tube in clincher wheel

If you are out to change the tube (and not just patch it), AND, its a metal stem tube...my experience is it is usually a lot quicker and a lot less cussin' if you just pull the complete tire with tube inside and treat it as new. Those stems just seem to be about 1/4" too long and too ornery otherwise.

Lex, Your math is correct, it just doesn't work with a T because of a simple engineering decision made in 1908. Just as a look see...the frame bush 'might' be worn to an hourglass and the crank then vibrates trying to find support. NY, A T ignition system 'works' by 'something' going to ground to cause the hi voltage to discharge when the 'something' ground occurs. In the T this is the timer and as the engine turns, the cam turns, and the timer opens and closes as the brush/roller spins around what can look like a distributor ...

All carburetors are different, but these rules and comments generally apply... The proper 'run' position is somewhere in the 1+ ccw turns...but finding the sweet spot will be on you. Yes, that 6905 (11/16" + 003) dimension is quite gross. the factory spec after finishing was .6785-.6790. Yes, 4 digits accuracy and I do believe Ford was was able to hold to about 1/2 that range. Sometimes the No start with jumpers direct to the starter stud is a bit of a red herring…

12v jumper cables for the amount of amps you need can cause a fair amount of voltage drop.

Some T starters that ‘see’ 5.8v or so, while the batt is still showing 6v+ will just sit there and ignore you….
