One more thing to watch is when removing a stuck tire, be careful not to smash the lip of the rim with the tire irons. If the lip gets smashed, it will no longer allow the lock ring to fully seat.

Many years ago my father made a soldering iron from an old veneer iron. The temperature is adjustable from 200 - 500F. He milled a slot in the face of the iron and inset a copper strip. This is one of the best soldering irons that I've ever used.

After looking at pictures of other original screw drivers, I believe that the flutes in the handle were fairly shallow when new. The drawing above makes them look very deep and defined but I don't believe that they were so pronounced.

Martynn, From what I know, there were 3 different TT Ruckstell shifters. The earliest, and weakest, was the bronze housed Hall-Scott shifter as is shown above. I don't believe that this one had the upper spring and retainer. The next is the cast short Hall-Scott shifter, like the one you have drawn....

This is an "automatic" Kellogg tire air pressure gauge made in Rochester, NY. It was to be screwed on the stem and then filled through the side valve so that there was a constant pressure reading while pumping up the tire. It has a patent date of March 1904. The boss around your old valve stem sat in a keeper in your felloe to prevent the rim from spinning on it. Your new rims don't appear to be TT but should work okay as long as everything fits up as stock. You should weld in a similar boss on the new rims to act in the same manner as the originals.

Also, the roof does show the roof slats but it is minor as long as the roof material is tight. I expect that they showed some originally too but don't show up well in period photos. They certainly did not have thick padding. An overstuffed roof on a C cab doesn't look good.

Tom, I think that you'll find that the inside edge of an AA rim (where the rim seats on the wheel) has a sharper corner that a TT rim. This prevents it from going on the wheel the whole way. All other things remaining equal, a high speed gear set will gain you about 8 or 9 mph over the low speed set. My engine is stock with a functioning magneto so 1600 rpm is about the maximum speed for mine. 40 mph would run mine over 2100 rpm...this would create some turmoil in my crank case and mayb...

The man in the foremost position in this photo was the owner of my C cab. He is "J.G. Huch" as is painted on the side (see avatar). From what I've been told by relatives, he was about 5'5" tall. I'm 5'9" and could comfortably drive my TT all day long.

This is an interesting C cab. If you look at the inside top edge of the cab sides (where the steel meets the wood) you will see 3 notches. That is the modern outer neoprene seal. It replaces the original spring steel and leather outer seal that is just inboard of the Hyatt bearing sleeve.

This is the fiber washer as it sits in the Ruckstell rear. The thickness has to be adjusted to ensure the elimination of play and also allow free rotation when the assembly is together.

There is one fiber washer in the Ruckstell. The inner ball bearings are just soaked to clean them up. Unless a rear is full of water, those bearings are typically in very good condition.

Martynn, both sides of the spider carrier are identical. Regarding a fiber washer, I don't believe that there is one like in a car rear end. Pete, I believe you are correct on this. I did some business with a gentleman who is familiar with this T. It does make me curious about the history of it. For as nice of an engine as it is, you would think that there would be a couple more floating around in museums or elsewhere.

The wear mark on the ring has what appears to be about the same angle as the plunger when it was cocked diagonally in your first few photos. The notch ring has a groove worn in the center of it. That looks to be what is kicking the plunger diagonally.
