Re: Traded in my T
Thanks all for the nice comments. It is indeed a blast to drive. I miss my T but am enjoying owning an A again. This is number 6. I sold all the others, unfortunately. First A was in high school, many moons ago. Back then it was just an old car. I traded an English Ford, Prefect, for it.

If you count the plastic Model T's with V8's, there are now more 1923 cars on the road than in 1923. Probably an exaggeration, but growing with each passing year. Why are all the new Model T's registered as 1923 models? Nobody knows.

So, after all that precise focusing the beam is passed through a lens to spread it out, at least on the later cars. In my experience, if the LED's elements are tightly grouped and at the original location of the filament, then the LED bulbs work just fine.

Steve,
How long has the battery been sitting? With the same current input, as the battery becomes more charged the voltage goes up. The voltage may be due more to the battery than the alternator.

Re: Part 2, Ford v. Ferrari, MTT, July/August issue
Well worth the read. Rod did a great job researching this article and did a great job writing it. Hats off to Rob. As a gear head, the technical aspects were the most interesting to me. The holes at the bottom of the cylinders to let out the exhaust at the bottom of the stroke were a great idea. If ...

Re: Erosion of Headgasket Surface
I don't know if this works with brazing but when welding on cast iron using a nickle rod (stick welding) we used to hammer the weld to put it in compression. Because the weld was hot and cooled it was in tension which would lead to another crack along the weld, so hammering it changed it from being ...

Re: Erosion of Headgasket Surface
I would be a little scared of brazing as the heat could crack the cast iron, but I suspect that someone who knows what they are doing could braze it. You can determine how much has been taken off before by running the piston up to the top of the stroke and noting where it lands. You will have to tem...

Probably did not get hot enough to burn the carbon off the electrode. Check again after 100 miles. Make sure the mixture control is set correctly. Shut off the engine after traveling at normal speed and as you as soon as you stop. Don't let it idle. As others have said, if the engine is running OK t...

Re: Why do I keep wearing tires out?
Stephen, When I was growing up the car repair shops had front end alignment tools that consisted of a series of bubble levels that attached to the front wheels and a part that connected between the two. My moving the wheels right and left the mechanic could tell all about the alignment: caster, camb...

Re: Why do I keep wearing tires out?
I did not read all the responses in detail so someone else may have asked this. Is the problem new? On my car the axle was bent when I bought the car with the caster much different on one side than the other. I had to bend the axle to bring it back into alignment. I used a 6 foot pipe wrench with 1/...

With 3:1 gearing I calculate that at 1000 rpm my car is going 30 mph. So at 10,000 rpm my car would be going 300 mph.

OK, here is my two cents. I have aluminum pistons, a distributor, a high lift cam, a shaved low head (high compression), and a fresh but broken in engine. I also have 5:1 steering gears and true 5 degree caster. Oh, and also 3:1 gearing in the rear end. My car is a 1915 touring car. Mechanically it ...

Craig,
Northern Tool sells trailer brake add on's. So if you buy or make a trailer without brakes you can add them later. Depending on your state, legally you will need trailer brakes if the weight of the trailer and load is over a certain amount.

Craig, I have seen some really nice aluminum trailers for hauling cars. I wish I could afford one. My camper has an aluminum frame and it is very light for the size. Your 1500 should pull a trailer with a Model T OK. My Frontier pulled my utility trailer, like the green one that tdump showed, with m...

I have had good luck using Teflon tape to seal the plugs. I just snug them up. The Teflon tape means that they don't freeze in the holes, don't leak, and are easy to remove.

I had the Kevlar linings and replaced them with cotton. I just didn't like the feel of the Kevlar and thought that the cotton would be kinder to my new drums. But others swear by Kevlar. I do have to tighten my low band often and I have disk brakes with the transmission brake as a backup. If I loose...

Re: 40 HP Model T
To me there is no point in increasing the horsepower beyond about 25 or so for a full bodied car. I really don't want to drive my touring car more than about 45 mph anyway because of safety issues and because it is just more fun at the slower speeds. Now if you are going to go racing or want a reall...

Not all people know the difference between 1915 and 1916 and may think that 1915 was the last brass car or may think that a 1916 is a 1915 car. I am kind of curious to learn if anyone checks this car out and what they find. Since I have no intention of buying it, I am not going to bother the owner w...

Re: LED headlight bulbs
Hi Keith again, You could probably do the same thing by using a double throw switch and adding a resistor in one side of the switch. The wires would then join and go to a single contact on the LED bulb. You would have to experiment with different resistors to get the amount of dimming you need. The ...

Hi Keith, The switch was there when I bought the car 15 years ago. It is a double throw, single pole switch, the kind with a toggle lever. It is not original and mounted on an added bracket. There are two wires that go to each bulb, one for high and one for low (dim). Each wire goes to a single cont...

Allan, My car has a dim switch setting for the headlights which reduces the brightness (Lumins) to about 14% of the high beam.
