Re: 1912 Length of horn conduit?
For what It's worth, my car was restored from a compete original car and that is the way the horn and cable were set up when the car was found. I assume someone secured it along the wood runner at some point to keep it from slapping on the door as I doubt that is correct.

My '14 touring smokes but hardly uses any oil and runs just fine. It doesn't take much oil for you to leave a blue trail. Could that oil be running down the torque tube and into the rear end? If it ain't smoking and it ain't leaking out on the floor it has to be going somewhere and you can store a lot of oil there. Just a thought!

Alan, the rims I was referring to are 36X4-1/2" slit rim clinchers on my 1910 Chalmers-Detroit. Years ago that size tire was not available. Today I believe they are available but ridiculously expensive so using straight side tires can save you $300 or more per wheel.

Re: De nåede færgen - Model T?
Draining the hose reminded me of when I was a kid. We has a 1-1/2 hp Champion outboard on a 12' sea skiff and we would drain the hoses at the gas station when they were closed to fuel our trips. We also drained all the empty oil cans for the residue as it was a 2 cycle engine. I don't think that wor...

Re: Windows
I believe that in modern cars the side windows are tempered glass but the windshields are laminated safety glass. I just replaced the glass in my 1930 Plymouth with laminated safety glass all around. It was hard to find someone who will work with that stuff these days but they are out there.

Get a wire transfer of federal funds to your account from the buyer. The bank will notify you when the funds have been received and those are good funds available immediately. You can't avoid declaring it unless you get green backs and keep them under your mattress. I am sure you have more than enou...

Centerdoors may be roomy but if you're the driver or front passenger seat occupant you have to be a contortionist to get there. I love mine but the older I get the harder it is to get behind the wheel!

Re: Improving Speed on an Improved Car (26,27)
My '27 touring will easily do 40 without any non stock components but I only did it once and, as others have said, I was not comfortable at that speed. If I want to go fast I go modern. I enjoy my T best loping along at 30 or even slower if there's no traffic. For me the plus of an auxiliary transmi...

Not me! Everyone needs a touring car, a runabout, a speedster and a closed car to be ready for anything! Oh and one of each in brass and black. Still missing a TT but have to find the room first!

I run a Jumbo Planetor. Low, low and intermediate gear but no overdrive. Intermediate gear makes all the difference on hills or running down a bumpy dirt road and the low, low is great for loading into the trailer or pulling stumps! I never drive fast enough to need an overdrive. Auxiliary brakes ar...

Re: Anyone use an Akuret oil gauge?
I cringe at the thought of making a hole in the apron but I also hate getting down and under to check the oil. For me the solution was the Rajo oil check accessory . I have to open the hood to turn on the gas at the carburetor anyway and there it is in plain sight showing my oil level. Wound up with...

I've never had a regulator in line. I just crack the tank open a smidge and once the lamps are lit I adjust it accordingly. Just don't open it too much to start. Never had a problem.

You might consider a Cambridge windshield. They work well and you can run with it on or take it off and run without if you want. I had a monocle windshield on my '14 speedster but when my wife was with me she didn't like getting buffeted by the wind or wearing goggles. The solution for us was a Camb...

Re: Modern tank for acetylene lights
I have my bottle mounted under the floor of my '10. I built a bracket that keeps it at an angle so the valve is at the location it would be if it was offset. Been that way for more than 20 years. Only problem is that the older I get the harder it is to open and close the valve but it's really no wor...

Don' t know where you can find what you need but this is what my original unrestored '22 Centerdoor looks like. The other windows have the latching track set up. The little gadget on the sill is an after market anti rattling device which works well. 9B1C5EBB-5ED4-46E2-A79B-7A111006B431.jpeg 3D804D4F...

Re: demountable front wheels
You can put 30x3-1/2 demountables of the same style on the front so you will only need one spare mounted on a matching rim. To do that you need new wheels and rims in the front that match what you have in the rear and since the wheels you have in front are 30x3 you will also need new tires. What you...

I use the Rocky Mtn. Brakes and once set up right have not had to adjust them often. If you set them up so that the brake band is still operational the issue with reverse is no problem. Mine are set up so that with a little extra pressure on the brake pedal the brake band kicks in and stops the car ...

Pat I think you are right about running a later power plant in place of an open valve block. My '10 is by far my favorite car and I use it often. Unfortunately, since dodging the bullet with my two piece crank event I find that worrying about another failure is taking a lot of the fun out of driving...

Re: Thoughts on rebuilding a 1910 engine
After the original crank on my '10 broke between #1 and #2 cylinders I replaced it with an EE crank but I would have gone with a Skat crank if they had been available at the time. I went with aluminum pistons and light rods otherwise everything is stock except, of course, for the valves and hardened...
