There is so much to consider if you do this. If you machine the A cam to fit the bores thrust control must be addressed. Also the front of the cam should have a T nose. Also I feel you should use A tappits, otherwise the duration will change, but lift will increase over a T. The inside of the block ...

My understanding from old timers, is that there are 2 different counterbalanced cranks. 1 that is prone to break, and 1 that (can't) be broke.
I have no idea how you tell the difference. Wished I knew.
I have 1 that I got used that has 5,000 miles at 60 MPH and still going.

Another possibility is to much oil in the cam cover. You said there is a OHC Montier head. There must be a oil pump to lube the cam. Possibility there was a orifice in a line that fell out flooding the valve guides.

Kevin, in your first picture, on both side of the dimple, there appears to be a weld. Did you slice the pan first?

Re: Old Upholstery Question
I have a 14 with original upolstery and asked this very question about 5 years ago. I tried 1 suggestion on the front seat, a different on the back seat. I'm convinced NOTHING will soften or restore original leatherette.
I'd use it till it's totally destroyed, then decided your best approach.

I have no problem with someone that wants to try something new. Why put a OF carb on, or high compression head, or Model A crankshaft?.
You pay the bills you build what you want. I pay my bills I'll build what I want.
I wish him well on this project.

Re: Engine knock
I drove to Harvey's place today, 190 miles round trip. What he said was true, #3 made a big difference, but #2 also made a slight difference in the knock. Without pulling the motor out and checking everything I went after the center main. 1 bolt had no torque to it, the other was tight. We removed. ...

Interesting Generator
Found this in my junk. Someone put a T front cover on a Chevrolet generator. This got me thinking about a distributor on a T. Problem is a T engine crankshaft gear has a different tooth count on the crank gear VS the generator gear. This would have to be corrected on the distributor drive.
