I cut 4 inches from the shaft and the column. It made a huge difference. I cut and machined the shaft. The column can be shortened without removing the spark and throttle rods if done carefully. I am not a fan of cutting and welding the shaft.

Some woods have better nail holding characteristics than others. Maple is not the best, especially hard maple. Nails will split the maple and it is very hard to nail without bending the nails. Pre drill it to prevent splitting. Screws will hold better than short nails

That crack is a typical "hard water crack". Very common in engines that were found in the northern states. It was caused by ice or hard water.

The distance between the top pivot arm and the running board is the critical distance . This support is 28 1/8 long.

FWIW. The worm gear in the rear axle of the TT makes it nearly impossible to push the vehicle or to rock it back and forth.

Changing the steering gear ratio from 4:1 to 5:1 will not cure the death wobble. The ratio is not the cause of the wobble. The wobble is caused by wear in other parts of the front axle. Mcmaster-carr is you friend. They have brass tube which can easily be made into windshield support rods. It is a ridged tubing that requires heat to bend.

I had one, put it on a TT for looks as I never had to change the kevlar bands. Sealing was not a problem as I used the felt from the band changing kit that I coated with silicone. Never leaked. Before modern sealants I'm sure it was a problem.

It is extremely difficult to straighten a twisted pan. It would be easier to just replace the pan if it is badly twisted. I speak from experience. The pan jig will tell you where the pan is supposed to fit, but getting it there is a whole new ball game.

What ever you do T wise, be sure to work smart. Follow the weight limits you may be given.Use an engine hoist to lift those things that are above you given weight limit. If you don't have a hoist get one.
