Jeff, fitting a tube with one side of the tyre still on the rim is a major reason why many tyres have notches cut in their beads. When you pull on the tyre to get the tube in, you pull the opposite bead over the valve stem hole and it makes sticking the valve stem down the hole problematical. Hence ...

Donnie, presumably you dated it for 1915 on the basis that the pedals are ribbed. On or Canadian cars the pedals were ribbed right up to 1925, so your hogshead would suit 1915-1919 cars prior to the introduction of the starter motor.

Re: WTB working brass sediment bulb
Stan, you might be asking the impossible to some extent. The sediment bulbs are on a taper thread. Where they end up oriented is anyone's guess. It depends on the thread wear in both the sediment bulb and the fitting in your tank. You will most likely have to make an adjustment in whatever is offere...

Re: 1911 rear axle rivets
Don, I have rebuilt a number of 11-14 rear axle housings using grade 5 bolts which have plain shank under the head enough to almost take up the thickness of the two housing components. First I round off the heads of the bolts in a lathe to replicate the rvet heads. Then they are cut to the desired l...

Perhaps you should ask for a left side door latch, as the driver's side can be either.

Then there's brass ones and a few stainless ones. I have stopped buying them now. They have long gone from hardware stores, so swap meets are an...

Whenever I have had the need to repair a broken cast iron component, and the repair needs to take load, I defer to an expert. Two jobs in particular come to mind. One was to weld up cracks in the rear main bearing web in a 1912 block. This was one of those which would have broken out and taken the c...

I have a dandy little valve spring compressor which make installing caps and collets [keepers] much easier. It is a period piece with jaws which open in PARALLEL, and click open that way when set, leaving both hands free. This means the cap stays central on the valve stem, allowing easy fitment of t...

Craig, with due respect, brakes create friction to cause drag, to result in braking. They are not there to make heat. In fact heat is an unwanted byproduct of the friction. All braking systems do their utmost to reduce the effects of heat, because heat causes brake fade. Cast iron dissipates heat be...

If you are really concerned, the drums could be mounted in a lathe and polished somewhat with fine emery paper.

I agree with Steve. The tubular horn wire is held on with separate spot welded retainers. Then they found a way to do it more cheaply with the U shaped channel, which was later made larger to take two wires when the battery horn was introduced.

The brass nut on the top of the carburettor through which the mixture control needle passes is split underneath, so that if you tighten the nut, there is friction applied to stop it turning freely.
Hope this helps.

Or, you could shape a piece of steel plate the shape of the missing piece, and file the groove for the rest of the bolt. Then braze a washer to the steel piece for the bolt to pass through. When you fit the hogs head, put your fabricated piece in place. The washer will hold it there. The bolt will s...

It depends on the finish you want or the finish that may have been used. Ford body wood was not much more than a thin wash of black, more likely just to even out the overall colour of the woodwork. That is why I use a 50/50 mix of enamel and thinners. It soaks right in, evens out colour and needs li...

The longer plate in the frame rail is a good idea. It will not turn when assembling the rest.
