Titling a 1912 T to the Car Number or Engine Number?

Hello Everyone,

We are in the process of liquidating my fathers estate and am preparing to sell a 1912 T Touring. It looks like the title lists the car number as the "Vehicle Identification Number". Should it reference the engine number? The engine is correct for 1912.

Thank you,
Howard

WTB Early 20's Roadster Gas Tank Metal Cover Panel

Hello Everyone,

I have a early 1920's Roadster and need the metal panel that covers the gas tank (under the bottom seat springs). I'd like to find an original. Some "patina" is OK.

I'll be vending at Luray next week if you are coming that way.

Thanks,
Howard Tomlinson

I'll have information on a 1912 Model T Touring car we are selling (unfortunately I won't have the car there), also we will have a truck full of parts both Model T and Model A for sale.

See you all there.

Re: American Bosch front plate distributor information

I have an original cast iron unit with the distributor. When I bought it the front plate had no bearing or bushing where the bottom of the distributor main shaft would be supported. Is this correct? I also have one of the aluminum reproductions and it has a roller bearing at that spot. Thanks, Howard

Frontenac OHV Cover Attachment

Hello, I am working on a Frontenac OHV unit. The head didn't come with the valve cover, so I bought one of the reproductions. I am trying to figure out how the bolt to hold the cover down works. It looks like the cover boss lines up the central head bolt. If you all could provide some examples of ho...

Hello Ryan, It looks like a standard T hub, but I have never taken it apart to check it. Chris, I also have some Parker-Hydraulic steel wheels. The Parkers spokes are made of pressed steel and the wheels don't have a fellow that stays with the spokes. The Hayes spokes are cast (steel or iron) and ha...

I have one of those!

Picked it up at Hershey years ago when the Green Field was un-paved. Must have had a 2 mile hike back to the truck and that thing weighs a TON!

Mine still has the front hub installed, but like yours...no rim.

Hello,

I am looking for a set of 1926-27 Roadster top bows. I especially need the header bow (runs horizontal to the windshield).

I'll be coming to the swap meet at Luray Va. in May if that makes things easier.

Re: That was fast. High resolution photo of Fords and other racers, 1911 Hill Climb

Rob, Thanks for the explination of the high speed "lever". I noticed the lever in the pictures of the Special that used to be on display at THF and wondered how it was used (thought it may have dealt with the brakes). Your explination makes perfect sense. I follow your posts with great interest. Tha...

Yep, that's a classic scam. A buddy of mine was selling a antique tractor. He received a check from "someone" in England doing the same thing (asking price+shipping to be given to the shipper). The check was from a major English bank. He had his local bank verify the check and they said it was good....

Re: 27 Roadster parts - what are these?

The straps with the hooks hold the gas tank up in the cowl of a 26-27 roadster.

The rectangular metal piece...I don't know what that is.

I'm guessing the wood pieces are for the seat back upholstery.

My 2 cents worth....

Re: How to remove a broken petcok in the pan

The last one I had I used a square "cut" nail as a easy out. Drove it into the broken end of the petcock (just enough so it got a bite on the brass) and then vice grips to turn the nail/broken section out. A "old time" hack.

Re: Ford Special racer in France, another hill climb

Rob, I saw in one of the race reports that both the 300ci and 410ci engines ran 2 to 1 rear axle gearing(in that particular race). Do you have any information on the ratios used? I would think they would use different ratios between a flat track style event and a hill climb. But, with the amount of ...

Hello Rob,

I was reading in some of the race documentation that the 288 and 410 cars both ran 2 to 1 gearing (racing stats so I don't know if they are accurate).

Is that what is in your racer? Just curious.

I haven't seen one broken, but I did take one housing apart where the universal pin evidently had backed out and scored the inside of the housing. Being that that area is already pretty thin a similar break could have happened.

A little off topic, but it's interesting that the 410 c.i. racer a the HFM has the front radius rod under the front axle. A feature not used on the production cars until years later. The drivers back then must have been fearless. Like a friend told me about racing hydroplane boats "There are old rac...
